I've ordered bunches of stuff from them, no problems, very good service. As noted, they have a good variety/selection, very competitive prices on a lot of knives and flashlights, and whatever I've bought was usually on my doorstep 3-5 days later. HTH -

The Ti-Lite VI is a cut above (pardon the pun) the typical Italian-style folder of that size. Mine takes a good edge, but it's not really designed as a slicer. The Cold Steel liner locks are among the few liner locks I'de even consider for serious use.

The Ti-Lite VI is a bit long for daily carry (legalities from jurisdiction to jurisdiction aside). More of a novelty, from my perspective.

get a benchmade. costs a few bucks more, but as a pocket knife it can't be beat.

I have absolutely no cold steel knives in my house.... and they used to be a great knife for the price back when I ordered from Gorilla and Sons. Their serrated knives lose their serrations (they just break off) and their locking mechanisms feel clumsy at best.

If you're just looking for a cheap knife that you'll only use occasionally or for a few years, then cold steel is the way to go. If you want something that will last a while and has a real quality in it's workmanship, i'd go with benchmade.

I've bought a few thousand dollars worth of stuff from them over the years. Never a problem.
One box was kinda crumpled one time and they replaced it.

Well I just order one myself, from Sportsmens Express, for 47 bucks, so ya got me beat by 2 bucks.

I carry this (http://www.crkt.com/M21sf.html) now. I love it. I like the ease of opening, the hilt on a folder, the relatively large size for a folder, but I'm ordering the Cold Steel Ti-Lite because I want the blade even longer. Should get here today. I'll let ya know what my first impressions are when I get it...

Cosmos,

knifecenter is completely above board and reliable to do business with.

As to cheaper? Remember you get what you pay for.

Lemme ask why the Ti-lite in particular?

It just arrived! OK, first impressions. It's huge! Probably too big for daily carry. Closed it's 7 inches. I knew that before ordering though. Not as easy to open as the CRKT M21-14SF. The little hilt-like-protrusions on the Ti-Lite don't stick out far enough to use for opening - you have to use the thumb stud. Too bad. That's a feature I love about the CRKT. And lastly, it feels significantly cheaper than my CRKT. I will give it some time though. Could just be because it's lightweight for it's size...

That particular pattern of knife, no matter who made it, has never had much practicality. It's a decent enough sticker, but kind of falls short for other uses. They are cool looking, though, and when playing with one you can fancy yourself a 21st century James Dean.

I'm sorry but the Ti-Lite just appeals to my eyes. Not sure why...I like 50s cop/gangster stuff, I guess

I had one, it was a handy little knife and held an edge well. I paid about 45 for mine 5 years ago.

The thing is over 12" open and that is a "small" knife to you!

HiWayMan-
I am quite the large Marge :p.

I bought mine when my unit was under PC scrutiny and couldn't have autos for the moment. Our CDR said they were too intimidating

...but an M16 and a baklava look like Eagle Scout issue? duhhhhhhhh

Anyhow, mine worked well, I'll eventually buy another for sure (lost my first one).

I understand why you had the M-16's. What were the plans for the baklava (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baklava)?

Okay...not completely "tragic". I wanted a Cold Steel Ti-Lite because, like you, it simply appealed to me. I bought it, opened the packaging, gave it a quick look & clipped it along the front seam of my right-hand jean pocket. I was driving to an appointment (a project review with a customer) a short time later and needed to cut a string tied around a bundle of blueprints. Ah HA! I'll use my NEW knife! So, while still driving, I caught the top of the Ti-Lite & briskly twisted it out of my pocket intending to snap it OPEN it once it was free from my jeans.

My previous pocket knife was designed so it clipped to my pocket tip-down. I hadn't paid much attention, but my new Ti-Lite clipped to my pocket tip-up. Unknown to me, as I twisted the Ti-Lite to clear my jeans, the serrated "wings" (flippers) at the base of the blade had caught on the pocket fabric and partially opened the knife into a shallow "V". When I then pulled the knife briskly upward to clear my pocket from a seated position (remember, I'm driving) I stabbed myself (deeply) upward at the bottom rib on the right side of my torso. Now, I'm in immediate & substantial pain, still driving...with a knife stuck in my side! I look around the car's interior and see a big stack of fast-food napkins from lunch a few days before. Perfect! I pull the knife out of my side & quickly slap a 1/2" thick wad of yellow paper napkins over the wound. Okay, now what? I decide I'll continue to drive, check for serious bleeding as I go, & head for a hospital. When I realized I hadn't poked an internal organ or hit a major blood supply I changed my plans. I'll just stop at Walmart, buy some First Aid Supplies & a new shirt, and continue with my day.

Once inside the Super Store, I grab a shirt on the way to the Pharmacy (on sale, out front), quickly find gauze, Neosporin & surgical tape and head for the Check-out...all the time covertly holding a bloody wad of napkins against my side & trying to look casual. Everything was going fine until I reached the shortest Check-out line (one senior lady already there) and the cashier looked at me and SCREAMED! Then every woman within 50' of me saw I was a stabbing victim. Several more screamed. Then the only lady standing between me & getting out of there (the senior lady) began asking questions in a very authoritative, indignant tone, "Have you been shot?" (I shake my head no), "Do you need a doctor?" (another no head-shake), "Well, I'm taking you to the Hospital...or I'm calling the Police". Finally, I speak, gritting through my teeth, "Lady, do you have any kids?". "Yes I DO!", she said proudly. "Well look CLOSELY, because I'M NOT ONE OF THEM. Now get THE HELL OUTTA' MY WAY"! I paid for my stuff while she stood there open-mouthed, aghast at my gall. I went to the car, shucked my bloody shirt, cleaned & dressed my wound, put on my new, clean shirt & made my appointment only a few minutes late.

I sold my Ti-Lite the next day for what it cost me & clipped my old knife back in my pocket. It's a fine knife, but (trust me) be careful.

Cosmose, while I'm no knife expert, yes, I'd say the factory edge is pretty decent.

Ghost. Ouch. I wondered about that. Thanks for the warning.

I own one. Too big for casual EDC, I think - most of my pants simply don't have deep enough pockets to carry it!

Mine came sharp enough to shave with (people thought maybe I was going through left-arm chemotherapy or something). BIG intimidation factor to whip one of those out, but the blade isn't really designed for anything that isn't meat. So, good luck explaining it to a cop.

The quillions (edit, later: the word was quillions, not baklava) can be a bit to get used to, and frankly I can only snag the thing open about 80% of the time, and that's not under stress.

One neat point Thompson addresses on his DVD is that the derned thing's long enough to be a kubotan until you actually need to cut someone. I'd be more inclined to use it like that initially - especially as it's easier to snag the blade open once the knife's out and in your hands.

For ease of carry, I'd buy the 4-inch one.

Mine has been relegated to the Danger Box in favor of a Kershaw Leek or Blur depending on the occasion. At least I can get the speedsafe knives open quickly.
