Mauser sights are sweated on to the barrel, in addition to a set screw of sorts.

For the front sight, removing the blade will expose the top of the screw.

For the rear, on most Mausers other than the German ones you need to remove the handguard retaining screw, which serves both to retain the H/G and to secure the rear sight base. On the Gew/K98 style of base, it only serves to locate the sight, remove it first.

Then apply heat from a blowtorch all around the area of the front sight, until you see solder beading up from the joints. Take a wooden block and mallet and gently tap it off the barrel. When the solder let's go, very little force will be needed. For the rear, the same applies, it just takes longer to heat.

Be careful not to get it too hot, and when you're done let it cool to room temperature on it's own!!

What sigfan said.

I would get an old barrel that had a rotten bore to practice on.

I have a dozen or so.

It is not easy to get the sight off. You don't want to apply too much heat, for fear of changing the barrel. But if not enough heat is applied, not all the solder is melted.

You could cut off the sight with a lathe, until only solder is left.
Then heat up the solder and wipe it off with a towel.

I would just leave the sight on.
