It seems like everytime I log-in, after about 15-20 minutes, (I never really timed it), I look up in the corner and it says I'm not logged in. This has happened several times, what gives?

Make sure to tick the "remember me" box. Otherwise the server doesn't set a persistent cookie and you'll be logged out when the session cookie expires. Mmm, cookies...

Also, make sure that you aren't clicking on posts that switch you from www.thehighroad.org to just thehighroad.org and vice versa. Different hostnames require different cookies. Some people link to one hostname instead of the other. Make sure to login to both with the remember me and then you'll be set.
