If you had a chance to rent and shoot at a shooting range a Ruger P89 or a Glock 17 which gun would you choose?

Thanks

I you have never shot either, I would suggest the Glock. It has a trigger that you have to use for yourself to see if you like it or not. The Ruger has a more standard DA/SA trigger. Either would be fun to spend some time with at the range. I own the Glock so I am partial to it, but my friend's Ruger has served him well also.

Glock of course. I've shot the Ruger and never felt good about the safety lever located where I've had to rack the slide.

You'll be surprised of what the Glock can do.

Tip: Find the right grip for you.

If you have never shot one before. Shoot it and see it the Glock thingie works for you.

Glock. It's easier to learn the trigger and hit where you want it.

Glock.
I've shot the Ruger and didn't like it.

Well, having a P89 for quite awhile, I'd have to say it is a lot a fun to shoot at the range, which is what I bought it for. It can be quite accurate with the right ammo. As far a cocking, I think the designer meant for the safety to be off (up) so you can grab the slide with your thumb and forefinger under the safety lever to help rack the slide back. This helps especially when its hot and humid and your hands are wet with sweat. A little different than most, but it makes pretty good sense once you try it a few times. Hogue wraparound grips also help make this a nice shooting pistol. I'd rent both to see what suits me.

Toss a coin. Ask a Levitical priest to consult the Urim and Thummin. Pluck petals from a daisy. PIck one, wouldn't really matter much. Next time you're by, pick the other one.

Between the two, I don't see much reason to pick one over the other. Both are common, inexpensive (as such things go) and utilitarian.

Well the Glock of course. Some places have a swap out deal--for a bit more you can try a couple different guns during a range session. Or if you are serious shooter/buyer they will do so anyway.

Just to be contrary - since I've shot a lot of Glocks but never a Ruger (centerfire auto, that is - I have 3 Ruger revolvers, a Mk II pistol and a 10-22) I'd try the Ruger. I don't like their full paragraph danger warnings, but other than that I've rarely been disappointed in a Ruger gun.

I rented a glock and it let me know that I never want one. Lots think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread though. I just don't see how anyone could like that trigger. But then I grew up shooting a 1911 so I'm kinda spoiled.

Yeah I've never shot either and both are 9mms.

Used to shooting a 1911.

I think I'll try the Glock to see if I want one.

Thanks for all the replies

How about renting one this trip & the other the next? Then you'd know the differences & stick w/ the one you prefer ;)

at the ranges near me rentals are priced per 1/2 hour or hour, you can try out as many different guns as you want in the time that you are renting. their only rule is that you shoot their ammo ($$$)

rent both. or have a friend join you and rent one each that way you can get more of a side by side comparison

just my $.02

I'd rent the Ruger, since I've already rented a G17. Rent one this time, one next time- or both at once.

If your goal is to try them out before buying a gun, rent both and see what you like / don't like about them.

Heck, if your goal is just to have fun, rent both! Its always fun to try a new gun out.

I happen to own a Ruger P345 and love it. I have actually never owned a Glock and the only one I have fired was, in fact, a rental at a range.

I'd try the Ruger. I pretty much can't stand shooting glocks. I shoot them great, but don't lke the actual 'shooting' part.

I would also suggest the Glock. In addition to the trigger and bulky feel is the bore axis, many (myself included) don't like the bore axis of the Glock.
