Any 280 Remington fans out there?

I've dispatched my share of Bama whitetails, bobcats & coyotes with this round & it's become my favorite. Realizing it doesn't have the following of the 7 REM Mag or 270 Winchester, it gets my prejudiced vote as a really versatile cartridge.

It's a decent cartridge, but Remington was only about 50 years too late with it to ever have any real hope of displacing the .270 Win.

i know that mike irwin is correct in his asessment. i know the 280, considering the company it keeps (7 rem mag, 7 rum, 7 stw, 7 rsaum, 7wsm, 284, et all), is a mediocre performer... i also know i have a very soft spot for the various 7mm cartridges, and my next rifle will likely be a rem 700 chambered to 280 - in fact, i've already located the rifle, and have opened negotiations on it... we'll see how it goes.

I wouldn't be too quick at all to call it a mediocre performer, Dakota. It performs very well within its class.
Anytime you neck down a bottle of powder and put a bullet in it it's going to outperform those with smaller cases.
There are valid reasons why you sometimes need the performance of a magnum, but I really think that for most general hunters, who won't be making the longer shots, or who need the power to take larger game, rounds like the .270 and .280 are about as ideal a hunting round as you can get.

I use and like the 280AI very much. The advantages of the 280 can only really be exploited using a bolt rifle and reloading. The MAP for the 280 was set lower than the 270Win due to it being chambered in the weak sister Remington autoloaders. This made it a lower performer than the 270Win. S/F...Ken M
