I'm not sure if you're aware of this yet but it would seem somebody is going around PM'ing people but not posting.... and while I'm not 100% sure, from the looks of the URL it's a spammer.

Ordinarily I would not post PM's publicly, but since I do not know this person, nor have they ever contributed to the forum, I will:

hey dude how are you? im new here can you help me with some guns stuff for my self defense?

which one do you advice me dude?
check here

please answer me ASAP

Thanks,
William

where it says "check here" that I put in bold print, it is a link for this:

[link removed by moderator]

The member's profile is here:

notice no posts ever.... so, how a member I've never heard of is my "friend" was certainly entertaining.

[site name removed] is a known sponsor that harbors spammers and spyware peddlers. Of note is their [site name removed] toolbar/spyware program that is making rounds on the net.

It would seem William10 has no interest in guns and is simply interested in gaining unsuspecting traffic for either spam or spyware purposes.

Just letting you know in case you don't. I'm guessing they're going down the member list PM'ing people and since I'm on the first page I was one of the lucky. ;)

He's been "taken care of" as of a few days ago.

Everyone can do as they please with mystery links, but I make it a habit of never even opening a link unless it is from someone I know. We certainly don't want to give him additional advertising space here by publishing his link and website name.

Running Linux here, so I'm pretty safe as standard executables don't run on *nix (well, not unless you add emulators and the like and even then I'm not sure spyware executables would work since the file-system is completely different). Nonetheless, I too don't click mystery links just out of habit.

We certainly don't want to give him additional advertising space here by publishing his link and website name.

Yeah, good point. Sorry about that. I should have either broken up the link so it couldn't be clicked, or PM'd it to a mod.

btw - I don't believe it actually is his site. As I mentioned, that domain belongs to a host that is well known to harbor multiple spammers and spyware providers.

In other words, it's a cyber scum hangout.

Glad to hear it was resolved.
