That is what the auction says, that, and that alone. I've checked the auctioneer's website, and he has no picture, and no further description of the pistol. I am somewhat familiar with the Walther line of products, but I know if it's manufactured 1892 year, it's well before Walther.

Auction is 8/25 at noon. Any info anyone can shed on this pistol, such as what make, model, and approximate market price would be appreciated. Also, any pictures of the pistols would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking to resell this item, if it's in any kind of condition.

Anyone with any idea of what this might be, please post here tonight, and I'll check 8/25 in the AM before I leave.

Boy, you think very highly of the folks on this site to expect all that information from such a very general description. (Sort of like "It is a car, what is the body type, engine size, make, curb weight, color and license number?")

Two guns that come to mind would be the Model 1879 and Model 1883 German service revolvers which are 10.6mm or about .41 caliber. They are running about $500 for one in top condition. Another would be a Mauser "zig-zag" revolver, which would be the same caliber and a very highly desireable collectible; they bring thousands.

But with only that description, the gun could be anything, including complete junk; if that is all the information you can get prior to bidding, you would be taking a gamble to do so.

At the least, I will be able to view and examine the pistol before bidding. Of course I would never buy a pistol of any kind sight unseen. We'll see what it looks like tommorrow!

Well, I found the auction and the pistol. It was an 1892 Model French Pistol, and from the serial number, I believe manufactured around 1915. It's in VERY good condition, with the original holster.

A bit of clean up, and it'll be a nice piece. I WILL be selling it, if anyone is interested, please post here with your email, or email me at:

I am glad the description was close. German instead of French, 10mm instead of 8mm, but those are just details. An 1892 French Ordnance revolver will generally go for around $150-200 in good shape. Fiocchi did make ammo, not sure if they still do.
