I am thinking about getting a LLama .45 to fill out my Spanish steel collection. I had no LLama so instead of buying a 50's small frame .32acp I was thinking about a .45 Max-1 at the same price on Auction Arms. Are these complete POS? I like the ability to accept 1911 mags and other parts. I don't mind some fitting ect . It looks like a good deal . What do you think? BTW I DO have 5 other Colt 1911's, and a P-13 Paraordinace so this will be a toy. I just want a toy that WORKS.

I'd stay away from it, even as a beater gun.

I've had my Llama MiniMax for about three years now and have put a little less than 1000 rounds through it.

Llama has far more than its share of lemons, but when you find one that work, they will absolutely impress you.
I bought my Llama for around $189 NIB at a gunshow if memory serves me correctly. Its accuracy is better than a sub-$200 gun has any right to be, and I haven't had any (yes, that's any) malfunction when it comes to reliable feeding, firing and ejecting.

I trust my MiniMax enough to have carried it a couple times, and it now serves as king-of-the-glovebox in my Jeep Wagoneer.

One problem that I have heard from other MiniMax owners: occasionally, a spent casing will be ejected directly back to bonk your nogging (will draw blood). That problem can definately be fixed, but would be better suited as a do-it-yourself project; professional gunsmithing could undermine the price advantage in short order.

Well, If you're just collecting...:uhoh: I see no problem. But if you want it for defense I would leave it alone.:D

I had the Llama MiniMax .45acp it was reliable. but hit about a foot low. And through brass straight back at my forehead.:cuss:

I borrowed a friend's Llama .45 when I first started shooting for a defensive class and it shot better than many of the guns the other people had in the class -(revolvers and 1911s). It hit the mark and didn't malfunction at all (but it was only 500 rds). Don't think I'd buy one though if it was a carry - reputation's a little too bad to trust your life to. And why collect something with a bad reputation when you can save that money towards collecting something with a good one.

I believe he's talking about an addition to a collection rather than a serious carry piece.

Good luck in your search.

I've seen those pistols range from complete dogs to quite good. By
far, the most consistent ones were the "Baby 1911's" in .380
and .22 rimfire calibers. Never had any run-ins with the .32's, so
I can't give a call. Two that I owned in .380 never burped...but
for the most part, they're a bad risk crapshoot unless the mission
is to be a wall-hanger.

Just a nickel's worth...
