Don't know if this has been aired before but I just thought of it.
If an item is sold in the For Sale section,how about requesting "SOLD" be put in the subject line.It sure would save a lot of time and effort! :)

After a transaction, the seller should PM a mod to close the thread after he/she made a final post announcing the item was sold.

In my world, anyway. ;)
