Depends on what you're hunting and what kind of terrain you'll be in. I have my .375 H&H bolt gun mounted with an old Weaver fixed 1.5.

The only time I carry this gun is when I anticipate going into heavy brush (Visibility less than 100 yds, usually much less), against game that is likely as not to turn on you if threatened.

If I ever take up hunting again, and were to go to say, Elk Hunting here in Arizona, I would probably up the magnification to a four or six power.

I don't like, as a rule, variable powered scopes except maybe on varmint rifles.
I have a heavy barreled custom .280 that I built for prairie dog. It has a variable something by 24 power on it, and if I could have found a fixed 24 for the gun I would have put it on there instead.

I recommend the 1.75 X 6 VX III by leopuld for the .375 H&H. It is what I use on mine. Don't make the mistake of thinking the .375H&H is a short range rifle. I have killed game past 400 yards with mine, it shoots as flat as a .338 and hits harder to boot.

But if you want a fixed power scope for brushy conditions it is really hard to beat either a fixed 2.5 power Leopuld or if you can find one of the older fixed 3 power leopuld you'd be doing no harm to your fine new shooting iron.;)

Given foliage and terrain for what you're hunting where you're hunting. The .375 has nearly the same trajectory as given bullet weights of 30-06 hunting rifles.

There's no reason not to put a quality 3-9x40 or other medium power variable optic on a .375H&H. I know people that would be quite happy with a fixed 4x or 2-7 variable.

If it were me.. Elk or Bear in dense timber with shots roughly 125yds, I'd probably go with a peep or other iron sights. Beyond that, a 3-9 variable. Although the round is capable well past 300yds, you wouldn't want a 6-18x50. It's not a varmint round.

1.5x5 Leupold VIII will give you fast shooting up close and good long range performance. Eye relief is very generous.
