Cheap scope. But it will do for light range use.

A local merchant was liquidating the inventory of another business and it included some brand new but somewhat old (between 10 and 20 years) Simmons scope. I dropped $50 for this glossy 4-12X44 AO Deerfield model marked Made in Korea (usually China or Taiwan these days). I ordered some glossy extra high Weaver Grand Slam all steel tip-off rings for it and mounted it on my second CZ 452 American.

I took it to the range this morning and gave it a preliminary work out. 50 yards, calm, high 80s at that early hour.

After playing so much with 16, 18, and 36 power scopes lately, the 4-12 Simmons took some familiarization. But, it has acceptable clarity and tracking abilility and it seems to hold a POI quite well.

Wish I had had more than 11 rounds of the RWS Subs with me.

Each row seems to show improvement from left to right. Something to be said for seasoning after an ammo change. Oh, and of course the classic CCI Blazer flyer. A few years ago, I actually had a couple of bricks of Blazer that didn't do that so badly. I purchased a brick of the Mexican Made Fiocchi on a whim and I guess it will be plinking ammo :o.

This American is not as accurate as my first one. But, it has a very smooth and reliable action and a one pound trigger via a Brooks kit. A very nice offhand rifle. This will make a nice set up for our local Fifty Fifty Sporter silhouette match this coming weekend.

Nice shooting on a very clean looking gun. Nice set up, you did a good job.

Exactly what was your question? You seem to have answered the thread topic with the pictures.

The combination looks really good. So far as the question about it doing well for light range use, you bet it will. Scopes are funny. You can pay a fortune and get bad ones or pay very little and get a great one. Gal who ran a gun store here said she had returns in all brands and price ranges with the high priced ones having about the same level of returns as the less expensive ones. Just depends on how it went together when it was made.

Inexpensive doesn't always equal "cheap". Good shooting!!! :D

Sorry if the title was unclear. I was drawing a conclusion - not asking a question.

Thanks for the kind comments.

I am on vacation this week. So, I plan to go to the range every day this week.

Here is the plan for tomorrow. I have lost 17 pounds in the past two months by drinking Slim Fast for lunch. I kept thinking those heavy steel cans would make great targets. I started rinsing them out and saving them a couple of weeks ago. I am taking a bag of them to the range tomorrow and knocking em over with the CZ/Simmons combo. Easy 50 yard targets. But, so is the Ram and Pig until they say, "time starts now".

In the "cheap scope" category, you can't beat a Simmons scope!!

To this day, i always go to my Simmons 1.5 - 5 x 20 for range comps on my AR15 carb...it complements the Eotech mounted at 45 degrees!

and for $49.99, you just can't beat it!!

Nothing wrong with a Simmons scope or a Bushnell for that matter.

Some scope prices are totally outrageous. I can't understand what a $1,200 scope can do that a $200 scope can't.
