Lots of people around here practicing up for the bowseason which starts first part of Oct. here in Va. Muzzleloader starts around second week of Nov. I think. Then gun season opens the week after that. Looking forward to hunting with my Ruger this year. I took 2 does in rifle season last year, and a 7 pointer during muzzleloader. Did you have a good season last year?

I hear ya! Archery for deer in my county opens in three days, though I doubt I'll go for a few more weeks or longer. Something about still hunting in 90+ degree weather isn't quite as appealing to me as it was when I was a kid.

Mine starts December 2008. That's the first time I will be home and able to hunt. But I am applying for the preference points. So I should have some great areas to hunt.

For all six guys who own rifles. :D

Hunting is far more popular here friend, our land would be barren if it weren't for our "seasons".

It's already started, but its' still WAY too hot (lower 90's) and the deer are really only moving at night.
Due to the drought and late frost that killed the blooms and such, I'm planning on taking more deer than usual this year. The herd will need thinning and a lot of people won't get any.

Yeah lol. all 6 of us. deer numbers are on the increase here. 20% per year plus. so even in our little densley populated island there is some deer stalking to be had. it is a bit on the self governing side becuase we have no public hunting ground etc. to get on the ground either needs deep pockets or for you to have good connections in the shooting world (i have these and shallow pockets).

Roe buck season started 16th Aug. 2 spikey buck a fox and a hare.
Hunting roe with a dog starts 1st Oct. The dog is fighting fit and ready to go.
You can't hunt roe with a dog in GB can you? uk roe hunter. Then again you can't use a self loading rifle either. Ha Ha.
The reason the deer in the Uk are on the increase is the the "Stalkers" in the UK don't get of there arses in the winter and shoot enough does. 20% increase a year is a bit on the wild side. If they are, you are not doing you job properley.

Archery deer opened up for a spell in August. Too damn hot though to be climbing ridges, glassing and stalking. First 2 hours are the coolest and after that your out of fluids and the deer bed down. Season goes out the 13th of Sept and comes back in around 14 December.

My big game hunt starts 19 Oct. Got drawn for an elk hunt. Cow tag up near the Grand Canyon border. Lasts a week.

Bad thing about Arizona is the draw process for Elk, Deer, Turkey and Javalina.

Skoghund,
You are right on all counts. My dog is used for tracking wounded animals alone. we also have a lot of new woods planted and deer are spreading into areas where they have not been for a long time.. I am not suprised about the 20% per years thing. We have lots of areas where deer are moving into and then getting some density up with no stalkers on. In a lot of places the landowners are not aware of the deer populations on thier ground.
Also we have a fast increasing population of muntjac, they achieve a really high density. I don't do much on does in the winter as on my patch we have quite low densities.

Eat it, of course.:D

Three does per day!
Holy cow, are they like ground squirrels on farms or what, that's awesome.

Sept29th, got a draw tag in Oregon's Walla Walla unit for deer and elk this year. Have an extended family in-law with land out there....woohoo. And it's mostly private land, another woohoo!

Spent last season in the coastal rainforest, saw nothing but road hunters and tracks. Hunted around Mt. Hebo area. Okay, I forgot, I saw two does.
