What was the SCOTUS case that established that police have no obligation to protect individuals?

KNOW that I have seen references to SEVERAL cases (not sure about the court(s) involved) about this - just have to go back through 'stuff' to find them. Suspect you need this info to show to someone else and that's good. It has been established that the police have no LEGAL responsibility to protect you, Most will but they are not bound to do so - I think this came about due to people getting injured in some sort of confrontation(s) and tried suing the police department(s) and essentially the verdict was - They are not legally responsible for you protection.

Start with this web site - http://www.jpfo.org/Dial911.htm

Sorry, I don't know how to make a 'hot link', you'll have to cut & paste.

There are several references on the page to cases involving 'police protection'

Back if/when I find more

it was 1968.

About two women who were held prisoner, raped repeatedly and tortured.

They managed to call police, who cruised by and didn't see anything wrong. They either didn't get out of patrol car, or knocked on front door and didn't get any answer [from the rapist] and left.

The victims sued the Washington DC police department, and the SCOTUS decided what everyone already knew: The cops can't protect all the people all the time, and people shouldn't expect them to. (Abridged opinion.)

Any idea what the name of the case was, archie? I'll start searching with the info you've given me so far.
