ok so this is going to be my 2nd hunting season( i am 17 on sunday one day after opening day) but last year while dove hunting me and friends just walked the local croatan game lands dove fields

we only got like 4 birds each all season and i was wondering if i would have better luck just sitting some place and waiting for hte birds to come it?

should i stick to trying to walk the fields and flush birds that way?

I've had much better luck staying put. Dove have pretty good eyesight. The stupid ones don't pay attention and they die right away, but the wary ones seem like they can anticipate me.

Of course, sitting still can be pretty boring sometimes, but if you get in a flight path, you'll have all the excitement you can handle.

It's a little late in the pre-season to be scouting, but if you can observe their flight patterns in an area, you can be in the right place when they start to move.

Good luck!

Find a nice place in the shade and sit on a cooler full of Cola and shoot
away. The Doves will fly in between food and water and then the roost
in the evening. I place myself between water and food and catch them
going back and forth.
