Hey folks. I need a muzzle brake installed on a 7mm WSM and everyone is 8 weeks out on the work. Do any of you have a good smith that is not so booked up? I am in N. Dallas.

You might want to try a new site hosted by Midway: www.gunsmithlocator.com. They have over 2000 real gunsmiths listed, along with their specialties, mapquest etc.

I presume that you talked to Kent and he quoted 6-8 weeks? He's the only one that I know of on the north/east side of town. The THR-DFW list has bandied around a few names on the west side of the Metroplex that I've never tried; you might try asking there and see what you get.

T'is is the silly season; everyone's been spening the last month or so trying to get ready for dove hunting, and after that it's the deer season rush. Most gunsmiths that I know hold a pretty good backlog thru the late summer all the way through the new year; late spring and early summer seem to be the slowest periods.

Doc Jones does my work, but I know he will be back logged beyong belief. Gunmaster on your side of town was a bit more realistic in time, but again, I am looking to get this turned around ASAP because I would like to practice on a few hogs before November.

Just shoot me a post if you have an epiphany.

Gene Williams, located in Princeton, is first rate. Not sure on his lead time but you can try calling him at 214-673-5510.

Bass Pro in Grapevine has a gunmith on-site (downstairs). Looks like he has a decent assortment of machine tools and a well-lit, organized shop. I have not seen his work, but have spoken with him once or twice briefly. Might be worth stopping in and saying "Hi".

Good luck.
