Any will work indoors IF you provide the illumination. Fluorescent lights are death on chronographs, they register the 60 cycle flicker that is invisible to the eye, but easily detectable by instruments as bullet passage and give all sorts of odd readings. You could probably build a box with a couple of those long skinny incandescent showcase lamps over the pickups of a Chrony and get readings.

Eric F: Sir; Major different brands. [checkbook] CED has replaced most with this high end unit. It will, and does provide results.

Study carefully; you will find comparisons of units against units;
all are compared to the 'Ohler' the thing to have; gone for now;
Nothing yet compares to the CED2 [old timers swear by the Ohler, based on info available; they should] Now; CED is the meow
Should you go to CED's unit; CED Milemum [spelling?] 2 is the newest with many upgrades. CED's info to shooter is staggering with possibilities; It works.

I have the CED Millinnium. It has an IR option, that is rechargeable, for indoor use. I have only used it in the garage for air guns where I have control of the floresence lights, it works well for little pellets. It does not work if I turn on the overhead floresence lights. Check your range what type of lighting do they have and can you control it.
My unit broke and was returned for repair. They were nice but didn't have a procedure for returning units and took a long time to return. They found the problem was a bad sensor heads one was dead and the other was causing slow readings. Now I have a month of data that is suspect. The computer portion was replace because the speaker failed. So now I have a complete new unit.
One feature to look for is data input like can you input the load data directly while at the range or do you have to download to PC and then add load data from notes made at the range. That would be handy.
Overall I would not buy this again. If price is the object just go to Midway and get what ever is on sale. :)

My Pact XP Pro works well indoors if I remove the sky screens & the cover from an overhead 60-watt light . . . I've successfully measured data from all of my air guns on down to rubber bands. I suspect most would do as well.

I have a CED. It has lots of bells and whistles but the actual sensitivity is no better than any other. I suspect they are all running at the limits of what can be done with consumer grade equipment. I got many false and no reading shots under different lighting conditions until I added the IR illuminators (and the rechargeable battery for use away from AC.) It does much better with that in place, the only time I have lost a shot was when the battery ran down.

I think USPSA's Chronoman who checks for Major Power Factor at big matches uses a box with lamps for uniform illumination. IDPA gets by with daylight but at the Nationals had three overlapping units to have a better chance of getting a believable reading.

I have the Competition Electronics ProChrono Digital and it works fine with a halogen light in my basement. I use the screens and have the light off to the side at an angle. A box with slats at the top would work too.
