What's your single, most favorite pistol?

July 6, 2003, 05:15 PM
I'd like this to be a poll, but since I couldn't possibly make one out of every gun in the world, a simple post will do!
I've spent the last couple years collecting only a few guns, but as of today, my favorite is my S&W 625 Performance Center (Miculek) .45ACP.
I just love shooting that gun.

That I own: it would be my Springfield 1911-A1. Not a tough choice when you only have 3.
That I don't own: All other 1911 style pistols. I am not too picky as to brand. It seems that all 1911s from the $3000+ customs to the more inexpensive ones such as Charles Daly and Rock Island have thier niche.
Wheel guns are starting to become an obsession.

My all-time favorite is my old Detonics .45, which I picked up at the factory in Seattle when I was stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA. They did a throat and trigger job for me while I waited -- It'll now feed empty cases, and the trigger pull is better than any Gold Cup I've ever handled.

Tough one to answer because my SIG P220ST (old rail) and P226 (stamp slide) in 9mm are two of the best handguns I've ever owned. Both incredibly accurate, wonderful to shoot, and reliable reliable reliable.
But if I had to pick just one I'd have to give the edge to the P220ST. The workmanship SIG put into the P220ST is really the best I've seen in a production pistol. Built like a tank but with the finesse of a fine Swiss watch. I think its the finest value in handguns today bar none.:D :D :D :D

Revolvers? Woah - - MUCH more difficult. The light weight .38 snubs, Colt and S&W, get a lot more use than any of the rest. But the big .44s and .45s . . . . And a couple of, uh - - -

Freedom Arms .454 Casull Premier Grade. I always wanted one. I finally broke down and bought it. I don't shoot it as often as my other pistols, but it is a blast to shoot. With other guns, I can squeeze off a few rounds and nothing really happens. When I fire the .454, everything in the woods gets quiet. I mean dead silent. It's like everything in the world collectively and simultaneously thinks "sheez that was pretty loud. I'd better play it cool for a while." My 300 RUM, .45-70, and M44 are the only other guns that give me this feeling.

Right now I would have to say a Walther P-1. It groups better than I am capable of shooting and although it is a used Police trade-in, I haven't had a single hiccup with it in the more than 7 years I've had it. Besides, it never fails to draw a few comments or sideways glances at the range - something different from all the black plastic high-tech wonder guns that everyone else is shooting!

My single, most favorite pistol?
Well, my FAVORITE pistol is my Smith & Wesson Model 63 with 2" barrel and adjustable sights.
I don't carry it. I don't use it as a house gun. It's a joke as a target gun and it can't be used for hunting (2" barrel is illegal in most states).
However, I love stainless guns. I love snubbies. I like adjustable sights. I love CHEAP .22 LR Ammunition. Plus they are just plain CUTE! In fact I have 5 of them.

Wow, I have enough trouble trying to narrow it down to a specific class of guns. To try to narrow down further to a specific model within that class is just painful.
My two favorite classes of guns, it is hard to say which I prefer, are 1911s and medium framed .357s. If I really had to pick I'd probably go w/ the medium framed .357s since they are revolvers and well, you just have to love the blast (literally and figuratively) you get from shooting off a full magnum out of them. If I really must narrow down further I could probably say S&W medium framed guns but more is almost too painful (though I think I might be able to say I prefer K-frames, I love L-frames, maybe even more than Ks, but Ks are just so much more versatile).

My Belgian Browning Hi-Power is the first handgun I bought. Man, do I love that gun. It's kind of like your first love. As deeply as you may love your spouse, it's hard not to think back to those heady days of your first love affair.
My 18 year old son also loves shooting my Hi-Power. He can't hit anything with it, but that's another story. Daughter #1--my feminine daughter--earlier this month asked to go to the range and shoot one of my handguns...Wow--A Dad's Dream!! Started her out on the .22 revolver, then on to Mrs. AZLib's Walther PPK, then finally to the Hi-Power. She, too, now loves this gun. The current dilemma is which one "get's" my Hi-Power. I guess I'll have to buy them each a new one as college graduation gifts.
Of course, if any of us was honest, the answer to "What's your single, favorite pistol?" would be......My Next Pistol!!:D
