You could get much more for much less through a custom gunsmith. Heck, you could get a very nice double rifle for that kind of money.
Best,

Yeah, but a free leather case...
Of course, street price will be a little lower. ;)

Hate to hijack someones thread, but these guys (http://www.hollandandholland.com) have the "ridiculously expensive rifles" market cornered, lock, stock and double barrel.

$15,000 for a manufactured collectable? No.
$100,000+ for a handmade work of art, that took hundreds of hours of labor to complete? No. It's unlikely I will ever have that much money. It's also unlikely I'll marry a supermodel, too, but it's still fun to think about:D
There are plenty of rich folks who think nothing of spending six figures on a piece of art to hang in the house. In that context, a fine gun starts to look like a deal - you can actually use it, not just look at it.:)

To hijack this thread,
There was a discussion a few years back as to whether Bill Gates could afford to build his own WWII battleship (18" guns). It was calculated that, yes, he could. So a measly $15K would be a drop in the bucket for him.

But that isn't the point. As I was saying... in my opinion... no way would I spend that kinda jack on a rifle like that. Meaning on a rifle that is a special edition of a production rifle that is pretty much just the same as most any other long brown gun.
That double rifle... that's something else. That's a hand made piece of art. That's something special. It's a different animal altogether and I'm down with that. But I don't think I would buy one even if I was filthy rich.
I'd rather have an arsenal than just one.

$16k? Aw, that's just a paycheck away. ;) No problem. It's only more than my car is worth. :o
In all seriousness, for that kind of money, might was well go M-2. From the comfort of your shaded porch and between sips of mint julip, you can kill any game from 1 mile away while listening to the peaceful strains of music.

The thing that gets me on the H&H site is this:
Holland & Holland telescope mounts: $5,250
Now, what can you possibly do to a scope mount to make it worth $5,250?

Okay - I can see the $$ for the hand engraved works of art...
But sheesh - $15,000 is five rifles!

And only a 5 round magazine?:what: :what: :what:
iNext time any of you people are in NYC, make an appointment (yes, they're required) and stop in at the Holland & Holland store. The firearms there will astound you!:what: remarkable one-of-a-kinds well deserving of the prices they command - up past $100,000.
Then go down the block to the Beretta Gallery. Doubt those Sakos will compare. (They do have very nice pieces there also)

A rifle like that needs a good sidearm, say a $15,000 45 Luger repro. :D

A "state of the art" benchrest rifle runs about $2,300 or so. And the scopes go for upwards of $400, but more likely around $700...
So that's around 5 rifles...

For my kind of shooting, that is a very nice rifle and 93,000 rounds of ammo. :p
You know what though, there are folks who own 3.5 million dollar homes, drive 300 thousand dollar cars, and drink champagne that costs more than my mortgage payment per GLASS. I think this Sako is for them.

Rich people are a little different.
I was at nice gun club in Virginia, Rivana? I was there for my NRA Pistol Instructor certification.
There was a trap shoot going on and I was observing while we were on a lunch break.
A fellow offered to lend me his shotgun to try my hand at some clays. Well, if lend, you mean tossed the gun too me from 10 feet away... yeah, he lent me the gun. I caught it one handed and opened the action to make sure it was clear. Then I noticed this isn't any normal double. The wood was too pretty and the metal was all engraved.
Turns out that shotgun was over 10 grand.
And he tossed it to a stranger.
Tossed.
I'm serious... 8 to 10 feet away. 10 grand.
I still have nightmares of fumbling that catch.

Craziness is a lot like voltage; it isn't an absolute, it's only measurable as a difference in potential between two points of reference. $2,000+ for a 1911 is just as crazy as it ever was. It's just that now you're more crazy, so you notice the difference less. :D
