And on the other end of the spectrum

I have been keeping my eye out for a Marlin Garden gun. This is a .22WRM bolt gun with a 'rutledge' bore . Can't find one. But I have rats close in around the house , and in the barn, I don't want to poison. Sure a .410 is decisive, but I wanted a big step down in noise. We aren't allowed suppressors in Ca:fire:, otherwise I'd get an English made one for a shotgun.
Seems like others have (had) my problem! I bought an estate sale package that included a 12ga Model 12 Riot made in 1950, it fits in a suit case:D
A Western Arms Ithaca made 'long range gun' 20 ga with some nice long barrels in 90% shape with brite case colors!
2 pistols, AND a .22 WRM Model 275 Winchester pump rifle . When I checked it out it weren't a 'rifle'!!!!!:what: Somebody ran what mikes out to a tight 5/16" drill hole down the front 12" of the barrel and polished it up somehow!
I have not had time to pattern it yet, but it feeds the CCI shot shells slick as snot (a very flicky action:) and I just dumped a BIG rat at about 30 feet when I fed the animals in the barn tonight. It seemed to hit a little low, I'll raise the goofy V rear sight a twist and pattern it tommorrow.
BTW it is everything I dreamed of in noise; about the same a a low noise .22LR in a long barrel rifle, it did NOT disturb the livestock:D
BTW the 20ga is going dove hunting tommorrow un patterned, with my Win 101 20 ga as back up if it doesn't work out!:)

Nice finds, Gordon. I'd like to see that Ithaca, any chance of pics?

For mouse control in our barn we employed cats and snakes. A couple black snakes and a good mouser can work wonders..

Still, garden guns had their uses. We took pigeons from the hayloft with ratshot in 22LR, but we had to work close.

FWIW, Savage currently makes a smoothbore .22LR, the Mark I-GSB (http://www.savagearms.com/markigsb.htm). It's a single shot bolt action.

I have two of their left hand bolt action rimfires and they're nice. The smallbore shotgun should be just as good.

You surely will get pictures as early as today. I slept thru my dove hunting safari as there was a party last night!:o Any way I see doves on my lawn all the time!:neener:
That Savage is .22LR shot. That is a weak sister to the long encapsulated 22 Mag shot with it's bigger shot and more of it!

Here ya go Dave. BTW the Model 12 Riot takes apart into 2 19.5" sections! I love it. The Ithaca "long range gun" 20 is nice too!:)

Thanks, Gordon. Nice guns. Some thing about that Ithaca that just whispers, Dove Tool....
