targatop September 4, 2007, 05:55 PM We took my Golden Retriever, Elwood, out to the range over the weekend. Apparently he was a bit jumpy everytime we'd start shooting. So while I was shooting, my buddy's wife put her ear protection on him. He sat in the back of the truck for the next half hour wearing the things - happy as could be. Just thought I'd share the amusing pics.

Now I guess I need to get a starter pistol and get him used to it! :-)

Autolycus September 4, 2007, 06:13 PM Who makes the holstere for that Sig 220?

Mr White September 4, 2007, 06:24 PM That first picture is not "happy as can be" That's "I'm so freakin embarassed that he's taking a picture of me wearing these things!" :)
Its pretty amazing that he'll let them on. I couldn't see either of my dogs letting earmuffs on.
Bruce333 September 4, 2007, 06:31 PM Since he tolerates human muffs, how about just getting him his own set of muffs?

FieroCDSP September 4, 2007, 06:37 PM Is that a Sig? Looks more like an M&P 45 to me. At least from this angle. Nice dog :) It's sometimes amazing what a dog will put up with if it means they're more comfortable.
It's not an M&P, I realize. M&P's don't have the screwed on grip panels. My mistake. Easy to make if you look a the take-down lever and the back of the slide.
SMLE September 4, 2007, 06:48 PM It is even more amazing what a dog will put up with to be near their human.
Cacique500 September 4, 2007, 07:17 PM Great pics!!
James T Thomas September 4, 2007, 08:29 PM Elwood shows why the Golden Retriever is a favorite with all.
trickyasafox September 4, 2007, 08:35 PM that could be the cutest thing i've seen in a while, and i may steal that pic to be my wallpaper this week.
Juna September 4, 2007, 08:37 PM Awesome pictures! Your dog rocks!
S&Wfan September 4, 2007, 10:18 PM Great dog!
I'll bet you'd trade that Sig off long before you'd consider giving up that dog!!!
Everyone deserves a really special dog sometime during their life! Mine's name is Ike!

milo z September 4, 2007, 11:16 PM Given the sensitivity of a dog's hearing, is gunfire more damaging to them than it is to humans?
AndyC September 4, 2007, 11:22 PM Ok, now I know which breed I'm getting when I move out of apartments and into a house at the end of the month. Beautiful dog - great pic :D
Tom Servo September 5, 2007, 12:27 AM That first picture is not "happy as can be" That's "I'm so freakin embarassed that he's taking a picture of me wearing these things!"
Yeah, that's definitely the look of complete mortification. I know, because mine give it to me on bath day :)
Adorable dog, and great pictures!
nwilliams September 5, 2007, 12:34 AM Cute:)
Glad to see you're looking out for your dog's hearing;)

My wife insists on putting those freaking reindeer antlers on my Lab every Christmas.
He hates it!
U.S.SFC_RET September 5, 2007, 06:10 AM That's so cool. My dog can count up to five but anything after that and she gets confused.
mesomorphcujo September 5, 2007, 06:43 AM Good Dog.
I'm suprised that so many people shoot around their pets and don't think about their hearing considering they hear so much better than us.
There is a dog at KCR and going by the artillery that they fire there I'm sure that dog can't hear anything but a constant ringing in the ears.
targatop September 5, 2007, 06:30 PM The holster is a Desanti I believe, and that is for my Sig 226. Wish is it was at 210! :-)
Nope, wouldn't trade this dog for the world...he's great. Glad you all enjoyed the pics.

Your wife too? It's even worse at Halloween at my house.
