The only two indoor ranges in my area have their vent ductwork BEHIND the firing
line, or behind the shooter. Being pretty tall, I catch the brunt of the residue from my shots as it's being drawn up. Is this a normal setup with other indoor ranges? I would think the vents would be a foot or so in front of shooter, drawing smoke away from firing line. Getting too hot to shoot outside, but an hour's worth of breathing that garbage isn't too cool either...

Sounds like the fans are turning backwards. ;) The indoor ranges I frequent have the vents behind the shooters blowing outside air forward and the vents at the target end sucking it out.

They have the blowing vents right above the shooter, so you can get a constant wind down away from your head.

Fans are probbly drawing air backwards. If the fan is behind the firing lineit should be sending air to exhaust fans downrange. If the range has only one set of fans they should be downrange to draw away from the shooter usually.

There's an outdoor range I've just found out about. They're open a couple weekends each month, not too far from home, so , gonna try it this weekend.
Yes, am shooting lead...... :rolleyes:...not good. So, do I need to find a "non-toxic" practice load for my .38? I'll probably stay clear of the indoor ranges anyway if this outdoor place works out. At least there'll be fresh air. Not only do the indoor places have no vent. they have no A/C......guess I'm just a wuss :D
