Had to go to Home Despot today for couple of things. Now that we've moved up to Western Howard County, the closest Despot is in Eldersburg, MD. While taking a scenic trip down the main road, I came upon a pawn shop that I've been wanting to check out for a used 20-ga shottie for my kids to grow into. They had some of the usual guns: Win. 94, sporterized Mausers, etc. But one gun in particular caught my eye. An 870 Riot Gun with an 20" bbl, tootsie roll fore-end, nice stock, original red Remington pad - it was UNFIRED and marked at $259. I commenced to talk to the proprietor, checked the gun out, and asked what the best he could do on it was. "$225 - cash."

"Where's the nearest ATM?"

And off I went to get some green stuff.

The gun belonged to retired Baltimore City cop who bought her during the April '68 riots in the city. He never shot it. I don't think he ever took it down and gave it a good scrubbing, as it still has alot of factory grease in the receiver and the barrel... Sadly, the original box is long gone, but it came with all of the original paperwork and a nice soft-leather case.

Manufactured in 1967.

UNFIRED. . . I think I will take her cherry this Friday, though, with the Geezers.

Wow! Even though the gun is not rare, the fact that it is unfired makes it amazing. I don't think I would have the heart to shoot it. I know it was made to be shot but I have a lot of other guns that could take some abuse and not loose any value. I think I would keep it cherry just for the fun of it.

Great score, Ed. A couple things...

Bare bones defensive shotgun ca 1970. Just what is needed and that's all. Sling swivel studs would be nice.

And, very good Venison tool. Just how much land do you have now?

Alas, PGCs 23" rule means we'll have to admire it only.

Nice find! You got a hell of a deal! It's a shame the previous owner buggered up the sight screws with a 10 cent screwdriver. The gun MAY not be unfired......... Still a hell of a deal. I'd like to have it!

Looks that way, but it's just the way the light was reflecting off the metal. The screw heads aren't munged up. They don't even look like they've ever been touched since leaving the factory :)

The evil (not "evil," but "eeeee-ville") Mr. McCracken summoned up his Jedi mind-trick powers when I stepped on to Station 7 during our round of Mongolian Wobble earlier today.

"Uh-uhn," he said pointing at my 870-TC w/ the 34" tube. "Not that one, that one," pointing to the little riot gun with a wicked smile on his face.

She is a cherry no more...

Of course, turn-about being fair-play, I made him shoot it from 7 when his turn came up.

A very nice 870. It'll look better with some wear marks on the action bars and mag tube.

Remember, if the wife gives you grief about it, I can keep it over here for you....
