Brand new? You aren't going to find anything reputable for that cheap. What is this for, hunting, home defense, clays?

You can get down to a rem 870 I have seen them on sale for $230 to $250. You can't deny that the military and most police forces use the Remington 870 so the "Tactial" junk is there to make it an evil black shotgun.

Other than that You might get a single shot 12 ga from NEF.

If you any kind of an autoloader expect to pay atleast $800. With the Beretta going for more than $1000 and a Bennlli going for that too.

You might find a used rem 1100 for $6 ot 700 but I do not see many used in my area. most on the used rack are the cheap junk shotguns that people buy then they shoot them and it beats the living snot out of them and they bring them back to trade on a Beretta or Benelli.

Winchester just came out with the Super X3 and update to there great Super X2.

Your not going to find anything new that takes 3.5" shells for that price. Closest I can think of is a Benelli Nova for $360. The Remington 870 Express Super Mag runs around $420.

Used, you might be able to find a Nova at a pawn shop for $200. I'd shy away from the 870 Super Mag as it's just an 870 Magnum with a larger ejection port and flimsy cover to hide the difference.

You guys talked me in to it. I will get an 870 tomorrow. My son loves mine and he say me type this message and said he will get himself a good pair of ear and eye protection instead of mine. Thank you And he told me to type "Thank you for talkin my dad into an 870.What kind of ear and eye protection would you buy with $100?

Why a 3.5"? Goin' goose hunting? You can use heavy shot 3" and it'll knock 'em down as good as any 3.5". You're going to have a hard time finding a USED gun in 3.5" for 150, maybe a well used 835 Ultimag or something.

ruger_martin_mastermag,
Like others have already asked, why a 3.5" Receiver? Usually you only need a 3.5" shotgun for Goose hunting. When you buy a 870 just make sure you get one with a 3" Magnum Receiver. That will allow you to use most ammo on the market and have the ability to swap out most barrels made for the 870.

I bought my son a Remington 870 Express with a 3" Magnum Receiver and he really like that shotgun. The best part, I was able to find one NEW for $219. (on sale of course)

I bought a new one for $230. He wants to get used to the big guns because we goose hunt alot. Most likely he will use it for geese next season.

I was woundering if it is worth shooting pricey shells. I always used a cheap shell and it kills. Is it worth it?

I would buy the cheap stuff for practice and use some good ammo for hunting just like I do with long rifles. I think the extra money is well spent on the hunt not to miss a shot.

I shoot winchester super x shells. They are cheap. If you have a certain brand you use that you think works bedder.

Winchester Super X shells might not cost a lot on sale but they are far from what I would call a cheap shell. Winchester makes a quality product. When you said cheap I thought you meant some no-name stuff or something from a Russian Block Country!! LOL

Winchester Super X are fine as well as any of the 3 Remington Waterfowl rounds. I've used Federal Premium Ultra-Shok Steel and they are good but i like the Remington better. If you want some really hot Goose ammo buy Winchester Supreme Elite Xtended Range Ammo. With the right choke you will get the high fliers you usually don't try to hit. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=525728&t=11082005 They have it in BB, #2 and #4 shot.
