Student killed at family home by car burglar

OCEANSIDE – An 18-year-old Oceanside High School student was shot to death by a car-stereo thief found breaking into the family car late Saturday night, officials said.
Moises Ruiz Ortiz was standing in the doorway of his family's home on Dubuque Street near San Diego Street about 11 p.m. while another family member checked on a man they saw breaking into their car in the driveway, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.
Oceanside police said the burglar got out of the car, pulled out a handgun and fired twice, at least one bullet striking Ortiz in the chest.
Police said the suspect ran down Holly Street and may have been working with someone else.
