odd idea, building a dragunov looking .223

I've always been enamoured with the dragunov style. It just appeals to me as the right looking long range rifle. However, I'm under the impression that the .223 has a better long range trajectory than the 7.62x39. So, I was pondering something. I was thinking I could get the SAR-? in .223 and swap out the stock. That leaves the issue of barrel length. Having never really tinkered with my SAR-1, I don't know how difficult any of these tasks would be. Thoughts on the prospective project?

I've seen it discussed on other message boards, but it has been a year or two, sorry i can't remember the name of it :(
If you're going for long range, why not get a real Dragonuv? 7.62x54R is roughly equivalent to a 30.06, as i recall.
As for your original question, swapping the stock on an SAR-3 shouldnt be too hard, then you just need to get a gunsmith to install the new barrel... maybe something like a VEPR is what you want?

MJRW,
If you haven't already done so, you may want to check out this site. There are a couple of good examples of making over a Saiga to a Dragunov style as well as a SAR re-do project.
