As you know, The governor of Missouri vetoed the latest CCW bill last week in St. Louis.
I recieved this snipit from my rep. this morning.
------------
"Also this past week the governor vetoed another bill, the conceal and carry bill. The bill we passed this spring was one of the most restrictive in the entire country, yet it apparently was not restrictive enough. Isn’t it kind of ironic that at the veto ceremony that the governor held in St. Louis he was surrounded by his armed bodyguards, yet he vetoes a bill that would allow the rest of us the same protection?"
----------------
I also ask him if our elected
representitives had the "stuff" to overturn this veto. His reply was......
--------------------
"Steve: We had enough during session and will try to hold on, but the Gov. is out there doing his thing so it could be a tight vote. Grassroots assistance can't hurt, if you have an distribution list get them to contact there rep."
---------------------
If you haven't contacted your rep. yet, this is the time to do so.
I will let you know if they reschedule the CCW rally in Jeff. City.

I live in St. Louis. Contacting my elected things is an exercise in futility.

My House rep voted against it, which isn't a huge deal since I firmly believe we've got the override locked up there. Where it could go either way is the Senate.

I corresponded with Senator Dougherty twice on this issue prior to Senate passage. He is firmly against HB349, using the same "it will make us all less safe" argument the antis seem to love. He pointed to the one study that was supposed to have discredited John Lott's work (and itself been disproven by later studies of the same data), and he was part of the crew trying to filibuster the bill, until Senator Caskey called the question to force a vote.

So, I might as well be trying to teach a pig to sing, as the saying goes. I will say this for the man, he does write back with more than a canned form letter. Now if only he had a valid argument instead of one based on irrational fear...but hey, it's the only angle they've got, right? They keep repeating the same mantra, despite the preponderance of evidence that right-to-carry hasn't caused problems elsewhere.

I know its frustrating having been a long time KCMO resident myself; but, don't give up. If he's sending you anything but a form letter, you're, at least, forceing him to make an attempt at thinking about it. Who knows maybe you'll finally convert him; or, if enough of you contact him enough times, perhaps you'll get him to see the Republican Sweep comming next year. It's worth the effort in this final stretch. :banghead:

2 cents worth.... :D
