THe pygmy rabbit is the smallest rabbit in N. America. It is in captive breeding status here in the Great NW. It is about the size of a human hand.
THere are three org. Ore St. a place in PUget SOund and at Wash. St. THey have tried to re-introduce it into the wild this past year near Ephrata WA. There is only one male thought to be still alive. Having grown up there I can only think of coyotes and perhaps some feral cats that are their predators.
I'll try to see what the next effort will be and where to get them back into the wild - perhaps some good shooters / hunters could be involved to keep the coyotes down and away as the population could be allowed to grow in numbers.
???
I've heard of this on NW NPR and the radio station is only a quarter of a mile away and a local phone call...
what do y'all think?
Maybe it's a bit of penance for all the little bunny rabbits I blew away as a teen about 15 miles west of there.
