I bought and 870 for my son. It is a 3.5 in. shell so he can get ready for goose season next year. He is 14 and is about 6 foot tall. He has an old gun but he wanted a new one. Was it worth paying a little less than $250 for a Remmy 870. Please post.

absolutely, my dad bought me mine over a decade ago and I'm just now seriously thinking about "upgrading". That is funny because that 870 express is more gun now than when I bought it as it has smoothed out a ton.

I'm looking at getting a Benelli Super Black Eagle II next spring so there will be at least one more season with the oldie, and will it be retired? Never, now that it has proved itself for a looong time I am going to gussy it up into my HD gun.

Nothing wrong with a Rem 870 for sure, just like I said in your other thread.

I would have bought a semi-auto for Goose hunting but I know price was an issue from your other thread too. I'm sure the 870 will do a good job and at his size I'm sure he won't have a problem shooting it.

Good choice. Let him shoot some light loads to get used to it before trying out the goose howitzer 3.5s,
