A professional at work

From time to time we get the "what if I'm pulled over while CCW" threads so I thought I'd post tonight's adventure as a real-world example.

I -just- got my wheel alignment done today so as my wife and I head over to the grocery store I'm avoiding the -nasty- manhole covers on the road (there's a series of about 5 of them that have a 1/2" or greater drop making for a violent bump if you hit 'em). Cop gets behind me and after a few minutes on comes the lights and he pulled me over.

So on my end it's the whole "turn off the engine, turn on the interior lights, all hands in view and wait for instructions".

The officer comes up and then asks to see my license. I told him "Sir, it's in my left pocket, but I'll have to reach past my sidearm to get it". Officer didn't even bat an eye, he just shined his light on my sidearm and asked me to move slowly and go ahead and get my license, which I did. I also gave him my CCW permit for good measure though that isn't required in VA.

So then he looks at me and says "well I saw you weaving a bit and pulled you over to check, but I can tell you aren't drunk..."

Oh GOD! When I explained about -just- getting my wheel alignment done and not wanting to hit the "potholes" he had quite a chuckle, handed me back my license and wished me a good night.

Completely by the book and professional.

the majority of LEO's are courteous and professional, at least he didn't hassle you or give you a ticket

Almost every encounter I have had with LEO while carrying has been positive, but here in AZ, cops are likely to ask what your favorite ammo is! Yes, I have had that conversation with a cop.

Most police officers could be dscribed as almost humanoid (tongue-in-cheek). :D

In almost every case that I have been pulled over the officer was completely respectful, and yes, had a pretty good sense of humor.

The state police here in Michigan used to notorious for asking if "...you any weapons, guns, knives, grenades...?"

I just laughed and said, "Granades?! No, haven't been able to buy any more granades since they stopped selling them in bubble gum machines." That net a good chuckle.

Be well and keep it between the painted lines.

It's always good to hear a story about an LEO not beating someone. The prejudice some people have against LEO's is disgusting.
