I had a PWA carbine. Only problem I had was a bad chamber. A new Colt barrel fixed that. A sweet preban rifle, that shot well. $200 sounds good to me.

I bought a stripped post-ban PWA lower in 2000 for $140, so I would say that a complete lower for $200 is indeed a good price and the quality on mine is certainly better than my Oly Arms. I believe that PWA is out of business now though.

Be advised that PWA (Pac West Arms) lowers are both Pre Ban and Post Ban.

This is the information that I have...

Pac-West Arms (PWA)

Definite serial cutoff. Last Pre-ban lower is #35,222. All Post-ban receivers are given a year prefix.

$200 for a complete post ban in excellent condition is a decent deal. A super deal would be a Pre Ban for that amount, but you can bet it probably isn't. Pre Bans are going about $600 +.

Some of us pay $725 for a complete (upper and lower) pre-ban PWA, but that's rare.

Consider the PWA the same quality as Rock River.

Many thanks to all of you for the info! I'm buying it tonight!
Even if the serial number says its a pre-ban, I think I'm building it in a post-ban configuration, 'coz I don't know if it came out in the factory as a complete rifle or lower only. ' sounds like a good idea?

Since you blabbed that is is in post-ban configuration on a world-wide internet forum, I'd say, yes, you should consider it a post-ban.

Its definitely a post ban, based on the serial number provided above. Its clean and nicely finished. I just have to decide now wether to build it as a 9mm or .223! :)
Thanks again to all of you!

They sold a lot more parts kits than they did assembled rifles. So you want to know who assembled it and that it was assembled correctly.

Back in there day they where the closest to GI M-16 you could get. I belive Rock River bought the PWA tooling and went into the AR biz too. I dont see Rock River or Bush being a better version and its above a Oly.

gmhippie I have a Cetme .308. Not one of my favorites, nothing wrong with it, I will probably sell it at the next gun show. But, I am probably going to sell the heavy barrel FAL also. I have just moved into the M1A and AR-15 buying mode, to get ready for the new gun laws. As long as we have these school shootings, and others, I feel new assault rifle laws are coming with a vengeance, and the AR's will be a better investment. I reminds me of an AK, hardly every cleaned, not treated with a lot of TLC, but it shoots every time. At one time considered putting a scope on it, because the thing shot way to the left, but bent the sight over to correct. You will like the sights on the German models more, the Cetme has a cheap system. Good Luck

*UPDATE* Well I can get the PWA AR for $600 and it is PRE-BAN, it has a broken rear site..there are two small bearings between the carry handle and the site one of them has fallen out causing the site to "cant" to one side, other then that it looks real good...

Sounds like a deal to me. I would be jumping on one for that price except for needing another 5.56 like another hole in my money pocket.

To revive an old thread. I have a pre-ban PWA upper and lower, and want to build a classic AR-15 on it. Any recommendations on who has the best parts kits for building a 5.56?

I've updated my old PWA with a Osprey gas piston system and the Magpul UBR stock ... and taking it to the range tomorrow!
