First gun ever(too young to buy) was gifted to me by my father. It was a NEF 20 gauge single shot break action. First gun I purchased on my own was a Sig P229 .357sig. Scratch that Sig. I just remembered a dealer at a gun show in Lexington, KY illegally sold me a SKS when I was 15, he didn't check ID and I now know why. He charged me $200 for it.

Weird little falling-block Remington in .22 S-L-LR that had an annoying tendency to slip off the half-cock notch. Traded it and $75 for an PMC M1 carbine and a box of ammo.

M16, 45 1911, M60 machine gun, grenades. My uncle gave them to me when I was 17yo. He even sent me on a fun filled vacation to SE Asia when I hit 18.

After that I was hooked. Instead of buying savings bonds. I bought 2-3 S&W blue revolvers every year for the next 40 years for a extra retirement plan. Best thing I ever did.

A brown remington nylon 66 22 when I was in 7th grade. It was a superb little rifle that never choked or failed to feed. Wish I still had it. Traded it to a religious nut job for a bow. Nut job still has it, but unfortunately decided to move out into the desert to await... whatever is going to happen.

My dad gave me a Winchester .22 bolt-action single-shot rifle with a cut-down stock when I was 7. You had to pull back the striker to cock it, and the safety was a big ol' steel ring with a tab that you turned to block a peg on the striker. It was VERY safe--you had to do a lot of work to fire it.

Later he gave me a Savage over-under camp gun in .22 Mag/20 gauge. Wish I still had that gun, like so many more that I've owned...

First pistol was a K-17 Smith in .22 Magnum.

My first shooting thingy was a daisy airrifle, followed by a crossman mark 2 pistol.

My first firearm was a semi-auto G3, bought 1 months before they were made illegal here and I had to sell it at a massive loss (paid £450, sold it for £250) to a guy who was exporting them.

The first one I actually got some use out of was a bolt-action .410 I used for wood pigeons and occassionally rabbits. I paid £20 for it and when I sold it 10 years and 2,000 shells later it was still flawless. I wish I still had it, it was a beast.

I can't recall the model but it was a 22 single action that I ordered from Herters for 30 bucks...I was only 10, I had my mom sign the catalog order form, and sent it off with a MO. I got a little pink slip in the mail one day from Railway Express (before UPS was used) rode my bike down to the office and the guy pulls out this cardboard box out of the safe and just hands it over...just like that! :) I picked up some shells at a hardware store on my way home and when I got home...I proceeded to pepper a floor beam in our basement...:) I couldn't shoot it outside since I lived in the city.....sorry for the long story but it's something I recall all too well...:D

I was about 8 or 9, and it was a single shot bolt action .22 rifle. I think it was a Sears, but that was a very long time ago, so I'm not sure.

Mine was also a single bolt action .22 from Sears. It might have said "J. C. Higgins" (Hitchins? Hutchins?) on the barrel. After you close the bolt, you manually cocked it by pulling back a sort of flattened knob at the back end of the bolt.

Yugo M59/66 SKS. Not the greatest choice for a first gun, but when I bought, I didn't know a whole lot about guns. I don't necessarily regret it, but I coulda done better.

When I reached 14, my father gave me his first gun, a 20 ga. Iver-Johnson "Clampion" singe shot he had gotten from his father.

It remained my only gun until I got outta the USAF at 22, in 1963. The second thing we went into debt for, after a dinette set so we could eat at a table, was a Browning Sweet 16 Auto 5.

I still have the Champion in my safe. Wish I still had the Browning too, but...we had a young family and needed the money. Momma's sort of helped me make up for selling it though. In '67 she bought first of five guns she's gotten me, all with her own money. She found a used but near perfect Smith 6" Mod. 29 that shoots like a rifle! It's still in the safe too.

Memories are nice.

J.C. Higgins Double Barrel .410. My parents had it forever, and gave it to me for my 14th birthday. It was the first one that was 'mine', it and my 30-06 are two guns that will always have place in my gun cabinet because they were my moms.

First gun I shot was a forgotten brand .22 that was what myself and all my brothers learned on, now my nephew has it. I don't think it was a blued barrel, I think it was some kind of painted on coating because I remember it was coming off by the time I got to shoot it.

Also, for my 20th birthday, my dad gave me his .357 Ruger Security Six with a brushed nickel finish and 6" barrel, which later got stolen. First pistol I ever had. In 1980 a man came to him needing money, so dad lent him 50 dollars for it and the man said he'd be back in about a month to pick it up, he never showed back up. Found out a few years later that he was a truck driver and wrecked his truck outside of Houston and didn't walk away.

After it got stolen and reported I was talking to a man at an auction and one thing led to another and we discovered it was his son that had 'more than likely' the guy who stole it. He made several apologies, and come to find out a bag of pistols had been thrown over a bridge into the Trinity by the son to reduce evidence or some ****.

Sorry for the long winded post, I just get pissed off every time I think about the .357

Dad died when I was 5. Left me a Winchester 63 :) and a ???25ACP. Still have and always will have the 63. First real pistol, Ruger Single Six (K-mart in Augusta, GA in 1969 or so). Traded it for a Super Single Six in 1971 which I also still have! :)

Ithaca model 49 saddlegun, youth model lever action, single shot .22. Mine is the "presentation grade", premium wood, gold plated trigger and hammer. These are no longer made, as Ithaca is defunct, but its a very nice little .22, definitely a keeper, I'll teach my kids to shoot on this gun.:D By the way, this gun was my b-day present when I was 8 years old, pretty cool.:D

Taurus Model 83, mine was in nickel. Total junk. Seemed like a ton of security guards had them in 1977-79.

Apart from all the cap guns and BB guns I had as a kid (and I used to shoot borrowed .22 rifles from an upstate NY farmer) the first powder-actuated gun I actually bought on my own was a Beretta 948(?) pocket .22. (Around 1958 or 9 or so.)

Got it from a guy in college for $15, kept it in the dorms for a month until I went home during winter break.

Used to shoot it in our unfinished basement at about 50 feet at business cards when my Mom wasn't home. Got pretty good with it. Many 3/4" plywood sheets backstop, with solid concrete behind that.

But a pain in the patootie to pick up all the little cases that flew around. Sure enough, one ended up in the laundry, and I pleaded iggerence and stoopidity when she found it. "Wul, how should I know how it got there? " Duhhh.....

...(passage of several years)....

Got married, used to keep it in a bedroom nightstand. Stolen when we left the back door open one day.:fire:(Anger at me for leaving door open.)

Next actual purchased-by-me was a Nylon 66 bolt rifle. Still have that one. It's a real workhorse rifle. I was unhappy with the way the barrel was mounted to the receiver (wringing press fit and a pin) so I glued the barrel into the receiver and cut the top part of the fore-end off to reassemble the gun. Really accurate now. Mounted a 4X Leupold on it.

---EDIT: You know, I forgot the actual first gun that was "mine" was an Amberg 1918 Mauser. My brother-in law gave it to me when I was about nine years old, and told my mother it was a deactivated souvenir, so she let me keep it. Years later, I converted it to .30-06 and sporterized the stock.

First I ever bought with my own money, not a gift?

Firestorm 1911 .45ACP Gov. model.

POS. But I had to have a 1911.

No such thing as a good $300 1911, I learned.

Break Action Ithica 20 ga. single.....with a lever action style break release....

got it for Christmas when I turned 14....

I got the same gun at the same age but in .410, it was my second gun. My first was a Garcia Bronco in .22 Mag at age 12. Bought by my mom. The salesman said I could shoot longrifles out of it and I did until I got tired of picking split cases out of the chamber.
