How can one obtain the number of copies of a model made? Contacting the company? Any public records?

The weapon is a High Point 9mm.

TIA.

The closest public info I know of would be found here. Although, it's not very detailed and is only current as of 2004. Hi Point is Beemiller Inc on those reports. Here's the link: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/stats/

Your best bet may be to email Hi-point (http://www.hi-pointfirearms.com/new_form.asp).

eta: Whoops! Forgot the link to the ATF!

BATF&E has tax records showing how many handguns, rifles and shotguns, listed by cartridge, a particular manufacturer made in a given year. You should be able to determine how many 9mm pistols they made, but the numbers are not broken down by models.
