The fastest ones will be best. I like #2 in 38 special but Red Dot will also work well. Even if I knew the bullet weights my advice would be to try the starting charge and see how that works for you.

Look for Cowboy Action loads for .38 special. That will give you soft recoiling loads that are generally under 1000 fps.
I use Red Dot and Lasercast 158grn RNFP bullets. A pound of Red Dot will provide you over 1400 rounds with that recipe.

My cowboy load is a 125 grn. truncated cone softcst, on top of 2.7 grns of Clays, lit by a federal small pistol magnum primer. does about 530 fps from my 4.75" colt clones, and about 650 fps from my 7.5s. Two things: use a good tight crimp, and make sure your measure can throw a charge that small consistently.

The most accurate load in my S&W model 15 is 4 grains of Red Dot (actually, I use "Promo", which is about the same thing) with a Berry's copper plated 125 grain bullet. They shoot even better than HBWC's. Red Dot also works well with cast bullets as long as you don't care about absolute maximum power.

Do you have any 158 grain LRN bullets? (of course you do) Try about 3.0 grains of Red Dot. 3.5 grains with lighter bullets -- except for 148 wadcutters, which should be less than 2.5 grains because they are seated so short.

Bullseye meters very well. Not like 700X at all in that respect.

Bullseye @ the 2.7gr load is "The Classic" target load with a 148gr wad cutter.
7000grs/2.7 = 2592 rds per pound of powder. If lead and cases are scrounged you can shoot cheaper than 22lr.

You can see the bullet streak to the target at 50 yds if the sun is just right.

Be aware of double charges using bullseye.
