Traditions Kentucky pistol

Got a Traditions Kentucky caplock pistol some time ago, have shot maybe 20 rounds through it. I like the overall finish to be quite nice for the price but the trigger is horribly heavy. My questions are: how do I get the lock out of the stock (I tried removing the two screws on the left side and wiggling the lock to come off but no success) and what can be done to the trigger pull?

Did you remove the tang screw and remove the barrel first? Here is a lnk to a diagram of the parts.

Yes, I did remove the barrel. I guess the lock just sits in the stock quite tight? At least the barrel did.
I wonder if the trigger pull is better to be reduced by reducing the spring power or by stoning the tumbler (hope I got that "tumbler" right)?

Edit: And thanks for link to those instructions, didn't find them with google.
