Counterstrike a prelude to street battles

Another shooting at an internet cafe (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=7027)

So what does some local politician propose? Well, he can't propose more gun control since the shooting took place in Los Angeles. And then a light bulb goes off over his head

"I got it! We increase regulation of Internet cafes!" thinks the pol.

"A Los Angeles City Councilman, Dennis Zine, told Reuters he plans to ask police to investigate the incidents with a view to introducing local legislation to more closely regulate gaming cafes. Zine suggests the cafes have become a focus for gang violence. Police have been called to more than 300 incidents in cafes since June in the city of Garden Grove south of Los Angeles, reports state. Zine suggests ages restrictions and security measures be introduced in gaming cafes as a way of dealing with the violence."

Not unusual in Los Angeles area. One of the area cities, Torrance perhaps, had a shooting at a fast food restaurant drive through. The city decided that all fast foods had to have armed security. If they didn't, they had to close at some ridiculously early hour.

Los Angeles if I remember correctly, also proposed shutting off the ATM machines when it got dark because so many people were getting mugged after they picked up cash at the machines.

I know that the only person who should be responsible is the shooter, but i've been to these internet cafes and quite frankly i'm not surprised at the number of incidents that happen there. I'm not sure why, but people take Counterstrike (The most popular game played at most internet cafes, hands down.) extremely seriously. If a person gets killed in the game, they start screaming (or typing and spelling wrong) "What the F%ck? That's *** you cheated! F&cking ******!" and so on. Seriously, nobody can ever accept that there might be a better player than them. So the name calling starts, it escalates, and if it's going down at an internet cafe where everyone is in the same room, it ends up going outside. It's sad really, especially because a lot of kids hang out there too.

Same crap, different generation. This type of nonsense happened in arcades when I was a kid. Regulating it will have no effect but to make everyone go home. You don't see any arcades nowadays except Dave and Busters and Gameworks.

Cheaper than providing police protection, I guess.

Well, counterstrike is notorious for it's hacks. Probably the most cheated at game besides poker.

:D
