US GI Magazine pouches

Can somebody please elaborate on what kind of mag pouches are/were used for the M14 magazines?

I have some pouches that I thought were standard for that purpose. They have stinceled in them "Case, Small Arms Ammunition" and hold two mags quite nicely. It has other attachemts on each side for other items and the sliding clips on the back.

Then, recently, I purchased at a flea market an M14 mag (USGI issue) and a SINGLE mag pouch. It is labled "Pocket ammunition magazine for M14 rilfe M1961". It has no provisions for any other attachemts and does not have the sliding clips on the back. It does have a belt slot. Both have "US" on the outside and appear to be legit.

Thanks for any info.

Nowaday's you'll see MOLLE magazine pouches from any of the big manufacturers of tactical gear...

Tactical Assault Gear, Blackhawk!, Specter Gear, Tactical Tailor, Eagle Ind., etc.

For old school mag pouches, I've got no idea.

To my knowledge there were at least two ammo pouches for the M14. There was the heavy cotton duck M1956 pouch that held two magazines and had grenade hangers on the side and a strap at the top to hook onto the M1956 suspenders. These were used for years after the introduction of the M16 to carry the 20 round magazines that were issued with it. In the system until the LC ALICE pouches were fielded in the mid to late 1970s.

The other pouch was a lightweight cotton that held one magazine.

There was another one Jeff.
It is made of nylon and looks like a big version of the standard M16 nylon three magazine pouch.
It holds two magazines just like the old 1956 pouch.

These LC-1 nylon M14 pouches were standard issue from about 1974 until at least the first big sandbox war.

There are a myraid of pouches being issued today for use on combat over armour vests and Molle systems.

My favorite are Spec-Ops.

Somewhere around the hut I have all types of M14 pouches from the earliest to the latest.
If I can get them all gathered up I will post a picture.

there was an in depth discussion of mag pouches somewhere on the M-14 Forum ( a while back you may want to go and have a look around there as well.

the 2 magazine poych with the straps and snaps on the side for grenades were Army pouches. They also held 3 M16 20 rd mags. The single mage pouches are USMC and were used by guys in their Officer Basic course into the 1970s.

There was a pistol belt with snap fasteners at intervals along it to take these Marine Corps pouches.
I use the pouch for my cellphone.

I served in the Navy late 60's to late 70's, was on a landing force that was issued M-14's, we were issued a pistol belt that had 2 double magazine pouches on it made out of canvas, cover went over the top like a box lid, snapped shut. After I made E-6 I wound up carrying the M-60 for the landing force ( due to the use of my voice when silence would have been golden)
