I've been wanting a bolt action .22 for some time and think I'm ready to buy, but I'm not sure if I want the 981t or a cz 452. No particular use planned for it just fun plinking at the range although I do want the ability to use shorts in it too. I like shooting off hand so usually I go for lighter rifles so I can shoot longer so something like the cz scout is appealing, plus the cz's reputation for accuracy might be even better than marlin's. Marlin's tube mag looks convenient and like it might be more reliable with shorts. Should I just get the cz or is it going to act up when I try to feed short cb's and other weird things through it?

Any opinions?

My CZ 452 said .22LR only. My Marlins (depending on the model) took .22 S, L & LR. For accuracy, wow, that's a hard call. I like both rifles and both companies. I do think that the CZ is lighter. Fact is, I am facing the same decision. Do I go a heavy-barrel CZ or heavy-barrel Marlin? I can't decide yet. The sole drawback I have seen to the Marlin, is that the current models appear to have plastic triggers. Decisions decisions.

I have both, and though the cz is a beautiful weapon, and it does have a set trigger, the marlin, with it's ability to fire all 3 rounds, plus it can hold 22 to 25 shorts in the tube at one time, is outstanding. and you better believe it is accurate. if you get a 981 with a synth stock, you may have to shim the action/receiver into the stock sides and bottom, so it doesn't move around a bit, when you pull the trigger, and on recoil, but that takes about 5 seconds to do. So you boys do have a choice, and both directions will be fine. to be honest.

453 has set trigger. I don't think the 452 does.

My Marlin is very accurate and I love being able to fire shorts to LR's

My cz452 scout will feed shorts, cb's, every kind of .22 lr or short ammo with the exception of the remington viper/yellowjacket. My friend has a 452 also. He's the one that showed me it could feed shorts.
