BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Bakersfield, Calif., police were searching Tuesday for an elementary-school vice principal in connection with the massacre of an entire family inside their home.

The five homicide victims — a grandmother, mother, two young children and an infant — were found dead by a family friend early Tuesday morning. Police said they seemed to have been shot multiple times.

Police Detective Mary DeGeare said Vincent Brothers, 41, the vice principal at Fremont Elementary School, was being sought. DeGeare said Brothers is the estranged husband of one of the dead women and father of at least two of the children.

"He is a person of interest, a possible suspect," DeGeare said. "We'd like to find him to determine whether he was responsible or eliminate him as a suspect."

Brothers has been vice principal since August 1996 at Fremont, a magnet school that serves more than 1,000 students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.

Michael Lingo, the assistant superintendent of business services with the Bakersfield City School District, said Brothers worked from 1989 to 1996 at Emerson Middle School — starting as a teacher and working his way up to vice principal there.

DeGeare said the infant was about 2 months old, and the children about 5 or 6. The names of the victims were not immediately released.

Police were called to the Bakersfield home at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday by a family friend who had gone to check on the family. Officers initially found the bodies of the women and the older children, then later located the infant's body.

DeGeare said all of the victims were shot. They were last seen alive at church on Sunday.

The bodies were still inside the yellow stucco house, across the street from Emerson Middle School, in the early afternoon as investigators went through the crime scene. There were bars on the windows of the single-story house.

DeGeare said Brothers occasionally lived at the house.

"This is very tragic," Police Chief Eric Matlock told The Bakersfield Californian. "I haven't seen anything like this in many, many years."

Unless you're just trying to run your post count up, could you please make some comment that explains the relevance of the article in question.

Other than the fact that guns were involved, I can't see the point of your post.
