Protecting Blued Finish

I just bought a new Taurus Mod 651, I got a really good deal because it is a blued finish. In Florida, if it's blued, you're screwed. We sweat a lot in Florida and as we all know blued finish can rust. Does anyone know of a product that I can buy that will protect that beautiful deep blue/black finish?
I wipe it down with a silicon cloth but it streaks and fingerprints too much. I try to keep a light film of oil on it but it's messy and comes off on your holster or clothes.
Any advise will be very much appreciated.

Wax.
You can get gun wax by various brands.
The best is probably a brand called "RenWax" (or is it renaissance wax?) -which some sort of uberwax formulated to protect quality silver, metals, and such in museums. Hi-end knifemakers use this stuff to protect blades.
Good quality car wax will also work.

Thanks CWL for a great suggestion. Never thought about wax.
Thanks again, John

A good quality paste wax, as noted above, will help a lot. NAPA Auto Parts stores used to carry a silicone break cam lubricant that was a clear gel. This works pretty well, and you can put it on radio/tv antennas to improve reception!

John,
Up here (Alaska) many folks waterproof their blued rifles for hunting season with johnson paste wax. Any good carnauba or silicone based wax will work, provided that no abrasives have been added. Many aoutomotive waxes have mild abrasives (rubbing compound) added, which will eventually remove your bluing.
For the absolute best in rest prevention chrck out electroless nickel or hard chrome plating. Cost should be $80-$150, and both treatments seem to last forever (slightly longer for hard chrome) and have the added benefit of smoothing up the gun's action.

Thanks everyone for all of your comments, I really appreciate the good advise. I know that Mother's California Gold paste auto wax is carnuba, so is Johnson's wax. I had some Johnson's here at home, I tried it and it worked great. Thanks again, John

There's an entire product line from Bullfrog of rust preventatives (smells good too!).

I've found a "Rig-Rag" to work much better than a silicone cloth. I've carried several blue pistols in Florida. RJ Hedley told me about Rig-Rags and he lives in Florida. I even put it on stainless pistols. Plus, you should see what Rig did to my Marlin 1894! Good stuff.

Can you order a "Rig Rag" on-line? I can't find one in the sporting goods stores around my home area. John

Let me know if you don't find one and I'll buy one at the next gun show I go to and mail it to you. Plus, a tube of Rig grease to "rejuvinate" the Rig-Rag.
I think I paid about 5 or 6 bucks for my Rig-Rag and another four for the tube. However, I've never had to use any Rig from the tube. I was just thinking about it and I believe I've wiped down the metal of every rifle and pistol I own with my Rig-Rag~and it's STILL going strong. (And my safe is busting at the seams with firearms.) Put it on your stainless guns too. They'll look great!
RJ's a good man who knows what he's talking about.

P.S. I forgot to mention that C.R.Sam told me he's been using Rig "in some form or the other for 60 years". No foolin'! He said SIXTY YEARS.

Maybe I'm doing things wrong, but isn't a good CLP all you need? I'm using FP-10.

Well, a lot of people like FP-10. However, it was one I eliminated. No offence, now. ~Lately, people seem to go nuts when you disagree with something that they like.:scrutiny:

No offense taken. I just want to know if you were unsuccessful with it. And if so, what's your replacement?
I'm always looking to upgrade.

I also use non-abrasive car wax on mine.
