"My hobbies are Firearms and _________"

I've seen a general connection between the hobby of firearms and many other hobbies.
So far I'd think many of you are also into:
-Martial arts
-Cars
-Motorcycles
-Guitars
-Cigars/tobacco
Do you fit any of those molds?
Also can you think of another "If he likes _____ he probably has a reasonable interest in firearms."
If you enjoyed reading about ""My hobbies are Firearms and _________"" here in TheHighRoad.org archive, you'll LOVE our community. Come join

Just got into motorcycles. Other motorsports include three-wheelers, off-road trucks, and vintage snowmobiles. Hockey is a huge hobby, XC skiing and snowshoeing too. Growing fond of cigars as a hobby, and definitely partying :)

Other than firearms, my hobbies are computers and amateur astronomy. I also like camping and hunting.
I would say camping and hunting are most likely to be connected to owning firearms as a separate hobby. Most gunnies I know do one or the other, although not necessarily all of them.

And I go to work 50+ hours a week and school several hours a week so.. yeah I just stick to guns. Antiques (well, my username says it all), music, and, well, everything else could be summed up in the phrase "self sufficiency"--guns, anything to do with the woods/outdoors, gardening (for food not for looks), woodworking, etc., all with the focus of being self-sufficient.

Pretty much anything outdoors. Fishing is the only thing that comes close to guns. To give you an idea, I have 10 guns. The number of fishing rod/reels i have exceeds that :D. Other than conventional fishing, I enjoy fly fishing as well. Ive lost my touch on making my own flies. Those are the two main hobbies i have. Model planes, trains and rockets are mixed in there somewhere, although I seem to have outgrown them I still enjoy them.

- Traveling/Backpacking. 29 countries, 4 continents so far. I was a military brat in Europe and graduated from Heidelberg American High School. I worked for the University of Maryland European Division after I graduated. I traveled quite a bit in Europe and continued it once I returned stateside and got my degree from the University of Texas - Austin.
- Audiophile - my two-channel hi-fi system is quite nice. I have over $10,000 invested in it. http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?vevol&1173569421&view
- Video Games - I was a GM of my guild in World of Warcraft and I cleared Molten Core, AQ20, ZG, Black Wing Lair and most of AQ40. I've been a video game nut since I was 9 years old and saw my first Robotron and Defender upright game.
- Photography
- IT - I'm a programmer at a multinational electronics corporation so I have my own website and many different IT projects going at once.
- Landscaping, home repair and various "hands on" mechanical projects
- BBQing - BBQ is an art, and I work on perfecting it all the time. We do beef, sausage, some pork ribs, maybe some cabrito and fowl down here.
- Art - I also collect art. I have art from all over the world. I'm especially fond of paintings, textiles, and wood carvings. My mother is an artist here in Texas and she makes fused glass works. She sells them in galleries in Houston and Dallas. I can only buy something when the budget and space on my walls permit, so I don't have as much as I would like. There are far more Finn M39 Mosins and M1 Garands out there that I want than paintings, I guess.
- College Sports - I'm a huge Texas Longhorns fan, especially in college football. The word 'huge' does not actually adequately express how huge of a fan I am. Hook 'em Horns!

Beer is my favorite edible substance, and the science behind it fascinates me. Beer as a hobby != drunk as a hobby. If you're doing it right, you don't have time to get drunk (assuming you're a neophyte like myself, I suppose).

ARE THERE NO PAINTBALLERS HERE?!
Seriously, does no-one here play paintball? It's like shooting excpt the targets move and there are no background checks. It's great fun, really. Anyone who posts here should play.
Besides paintball, I like knives, swords, maces, history, museams, reading, airsoft, air rifle shooting, camping, boating, fishing, woodworking, working on computers, learning (kinda, just as an experiment, as I've never ben that good at playing an instrument) to play bass, car stuff, video games ( HALO 3 is out soon, :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D ), canoeing, backpacking, day hiking, vacationing, zoology, and writing crime fiction. i'm sure I've missed some.

-- Home Theater / Audio
-- Reading
-- Photography
-- Wine
-- Cigars
-- Computer
I've been a huge home theater / audio nut since I was about 12 years-old and have acquired a pretty ridiculous assortment of gear over the years. Some people sell stuff as they upgrade. I tend to shift it down to other rooms, which explains why I have a surround system in my bedroom. Its every bit as much an illness/obsession as firearms. My main system currently consists of Paradigm Studio/40 mains, Studio/CC center channel and ADP-370 surrounds and an SVS PB12-Plus/2 Subwoofer. I have a Sherbourne Pre/Pro paired with a Marantz 5-channel amp. My display is an older 43" Hitachi HDTV and am using a Sony PS3, a Toshiba DVD Recorder/VCR, a Slim Devices Squeezebox and a Scientific Atlanta HD8300 DVR as source components.
I've also been into computers since I was around 15, but working in IT has kind of killed it for me as a hobby. Every couple years, I will emerse myself in all the latest technology for a few weeks and build a new machine. Then I tend to forget all about it until one of my machines gets long in the tooth. I am a casual gamer who got tired of buying $300 video cards for the sake of playing 3 games a year, so I finally crossed over to the dark side and bought a PS3 (which is also an excellent upconverting DVD player, a good BluRay player and a half-decent media extender).
I've been into wine and cigars for a few years and I do maintain a humidor. I only smoke about 10 to 12 cigars a year, but I enjoy them a lot when I indulge. I'm a little less temperate with the wine and consume 1 to 2 bottles a week. My wife likes sweet whites, but I'm more of a red guy.
I used to be huge into photography and did quite a bit of work in college. I've slacked off a lot over the years and only recently got a truly decent little camera to start getting back into it. My old Nikon SLR is simply worn out from being dragged all over the country and the world for ten years and thousands of exposures.
My undergrad degree was in English Lit. What do you do with an English major? I taught English abroad for three years before coming back to the States and realizing that didn't want to teach and didn't like most of my options. I leveraged my long-standing computer hobby to land my first tech job and eventually got a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems. Now I'm a data warehouse architect with a large medical company. That said, I wouldn't be much of an English major if I didn't enjoy reading and I still manage to read at least a book or two a month.

Lets see. . . .
Cars - I have always been "into" cars, muscle and sport - currently have a 74 Mercedes convert as a toy
Motorcycles - got my 1st one at 14; currently have 2 - a little Yamaha and and extensively performance modified Harley
Cigar - yes! Last night my neighbor and his brother stopped by, we sat on the porch and had Cohiba (w/no red dot!) churchills :)
Martial arts - started boxing in the late 60s, karate in 1970. Started Japanese ****o-ryu in 1973, still in same style/same instructor. Instructor, dojo owner. Also teach Japanese sword arts, practice ju jitsu, escrima, etc.
critters - 2 dogs, 2 cats
fitness training - lifelong wight training, trail running, road and mtn bike, etc.
Scuba diving, camping and hiking, sailing and boating, etc.
Oh yeah, and shooting - most of my practice and competitive background is with handguns.
So, today, I taught kobudo and karate for several hours at the dojo, then took my dogs to a Humane Society fundraiser, after which I took the dogs with me for an hour of mountain biking. Then I came home, got my Harley and road about 25 miles downriver to a cigar store one of my buddies suggested. :D

ARE THERE NO PAINTBALLERS HERE?!
When I was a kid (14-16 years old) growing up around the bayous of Dickinson, Texas, close to Galveston and the Gulf of Mexico, we used to have BB gun wars, where anything was fair game. We wore welders masks, two winter coats, steyrofoam life preservers, boots and two pairs of pants. We used pump BB rifles. By rule, one pump was the maximum but you would often hear guys pumping 5 or 6 times before they shot you while you were on the run in the open and they had the advantage.
That was the most fun I've ever had in my life. We would dive in the bayou ditches to avoid being shot, and ambushes were hell on the other team. I have a few BB-sized scars from those times, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I can never view paintballers with any seriousness after that. If you want to be real men, use BB guns.

Far too many hobbies for me. Photography, cooking, too many electronic toys to count, music, movies (love NetFlix), camping, fishing, traveling, my cats (I spoil them), and more I'm sure that I'm forgetting at the moment. I was into a cherry '87 Pontiac Fiero GT and a '03 Honda FSC600 SilverWing, but I sold those last year. It would be quite a stretch to connect any of those to shooting, but I'm sure some weirdo would try.

Which of your guns could you NOT easily fit into the Fiero? Passenger seat does not count.

Firearms and Aviation. That's about it. I will talk to you all day either about guns or flying.
Over the summer of 2005, I had worked and saved up about $1200. The plan was to get either a Garand or an M1A. Of course, my father, a commercial rated pilot, suggested that I get my pilots license. So now, here I sit, with a private pilot certificate, and no battle rifle. I did, however, collect a 10/22, Mosin-Nagant, and an 870 along the way.
And spent a hell of a lot of money, too.
Oh, I like to read, too. About guns and flying, of course.

As for me, I like hiking, reading, and going on dumb adventures.

Like to fish in my spare time, and some trap shooting when I can get to the range.

I can only afford one semi-expensive hobby right now, but I have a passion for music and love seeing it live when I can. Went to see Texas/Oklahoma red-dirt country band Cross Canadian Ragweed Friday night (into Saturday morning, of course) at a little club about an hour from here. Thick smoke, cold Shiner Bock beer, good times. I was about 10 feet from Cody Canada and the boys. Small venues like that rawk. :D I can deal with the arenas & stadiums when seeing someone like George Strait, but what I wouldn't give to see him in a place like Gruene Hall, singing Bob Wills & Merle Haggard songs all night long, with maybe an encore featuring Webb Pierce's "There Stands the Glass."
My brother from another mother has an affinity for cigars and I smoke when him whenever we get together. Don't remember what kind the last one was, but it was good. As for wine, unless I am feeling like death, you'll usually find me drinking pinot noir or merlot with my stepdad on Sunday afternoons as golf or football is on the tube.

ARE THERE NO PAINTBALLERS HERE?!
Seriously, does no-one here play paintball? It's like shooting except the targets move and there are no background checks. It's great fun, really. Anyone who posts here should play.
I play. I use to play competitively, now I just play for fun. My wife plays when it's cool enough and my daughter really wants to play, but she's not old yet enough.
For me, paintball is not at all like firearms/combat training. Tournament style paintball, the only kind I play with any regularity, is a game, plain and simple. The only rush I get from playing is the same thrill I get from any sport. It's not MOUT training or anything similar.
I'm not saying there aren't some commonalities. People both bring and take all sorts of different experiences to/from activities.
Other hobbies: reading, writing, hiking, fishing (catch and release - not into seafood), bicycling with my kidlet, working out. Previously, martial arts, fencing, kendo, and western combative, but that stuff was all a long time ago.

I've seen a general connection between the hobby of firearms and many other hobbies.
First off, my firearms are not hobbies. They are tools for me to ensure my family survives. I do shoot my flintlock for fun, but then its a calss C firework according to the feds.
So far I'd think many of you are also into:
-Martial arts
Once again, my swords are not a hobby, they are close in defense tools
-Cars
Tho I dirve a 1972 Dodge Dart, its what I prefer to drive, rather than a rice grinder. I dont enter it in shows, Its just what I drive daily
-Motorcycles
Sold mine this year, getting to old to scrape myself off the ground due to the growing number of idiot car drivers out there.
-Guitars
Cant play nor sing, can listen tho, what I listen to is considered classic, like me
-Cigars/tobacco
In order to stay alive and be fit for what we face in the future, I do not endulge any more.

When I have a space to do so I tan hides into leather. I was taught that waste is an evil and leaving a deerskin to rot away seems like a waste. I also craft leather, my best work is a belt and holster I made for my Dad's "09" S&W revolver. The belt made from de-grained belly skin and the holster from the back skin of an ancient buck a city people shot for a trophy.

Which of your guns could you NOT easily fit into the Fiero?
You got me there. No way would the trapgun fit into the Fiero's trunk (or so it was called). As for the SillverWing, I never tried using a scabbard on it. Seeing as how it had a full fairing, I'm thinking that wouldn't have been easy.

Chasing thermals with _model_ airplanes, the real kind, with no radios in them. I think I've lost at least a coupla dozen hand-launched gliders in thermals, out of sight overhead. (said gliders being of my own design)
Some people don't understand how cool it is to lose an airplane in a thermal. Sometimes you get them back, from far away, if you put your phone number on them.
Sorta like putting a note in a bottle, tossing it into the sea, and years later getting a postcard from a far-away foreign country.

We're always trying to "get the gun" (a shotgun - with blanks - is fired to signify the first sailboat has finished the race.)
And Photography. And swearing at Photoshop. And our two German Shepherds.

I am mega addicted to paintball. I have tons of money and time wrapped up in the sport. I currently have over ten PB guns, and we aren't talking about the WalMart specials. I try to play two or three times a month. It's a great rush, and a great workout. Plus I have met some really great people. Bottom line is that it is seriously fun.
Other hobbies are:
Cars (new or old, foreign or domestic)
Motorcycles (I love sport bikes and crusiers. I currently ride a Ducati and Kawasaki Z1000)
XBox360 (another addiction of mine. Rainbow Six Vegas and Forza 2 are my games of choice)

Home theatre, computer time, biking, and being a car guy take up most of my non-firearm time. Actually more of a fast truck guy for now.

After firearms:
Reloading: There is at least one perfect load for every firearm, and I'm looking!
Hunting: Anything, any time, but the favorites are deer and wild hogs. (This explains why a .50 cal flintlock is my "squirrel gun."
Horses: Riding, training (trying to start a mounted SAR unit in the area)
EMT with local VFD.

Reading Sci Fi & fiction & somewhat collecting my favorites (I sold a bunch & I think I am below 1000 again.)
Building PC's & playing on them.
Reading interesting blogs & browsing internet communities.
(Glad to have found THR. Seems to be among the best of the firearm forums.)
Listening to thrash metal mainly & most rock music otherwise.
Trying to get back into lifting (a recurring hobby lately.)

Sorry if I missed it but vintage tractors was the first I've seen on the topic. Reminds me of twenty years ago when I passed a place with I think a Farmall Cub (the smallest tractor before lawn tractors came out, for just eight or nine hundred in very good shape. As I lived in an apartment then I just couldn't convince her or myself of a place or person who would give me the storage space etc to buy it. Still love old tractors like I love mechanical watches like Omegas or the old wind up railroad watches. The connection with guns is pretty obvious in terms of functional objects in which a man's skill with tools is what grabs you. I have bought maybe three new firearms in my life, the rest USGI rifles and a 1917 Smith and Wesson rebuilt by the factory in the fifties to look new with box and serial number etc. Sometimes I think I am nuts but was a shrink for close to thirty years and knew not to talk about firearms due to prejudice based on old theories that politicians still use today. Except for some yahoos I've met at ranges, the majority of people have been a great collection of every profession you can think and one of the most helpful group of people I've met.
