I thought of Tamara when I picked up this NYSP 520 in almost cherry shape (thats oil smears in the blazing sunlight). It had Pachy grips which went bye bye for these grips I been holding on to for the right gun. I have 4" S&W .44 specials (5 screws) but this is a MAGNUM and it is sighted in perfectly. I can keep all 6 .38+ps in a group the size of your hand in 2 seconds at 15 yards! I can't do that with the .44s! Infact I can't do that with the 27s OR 29s. I can do it with my full on bull barrel New Service .45 fighting revolver, but thats another story and you all ready have seen it.:)

The S&W has a velvety smooth action, it is the smoothest N frame I own. It is not quite as good as a 40s K frame, but close! This New Service .45acp Colt has everything that Cylinder and Slide can do for it, but is not quite as good as the 520. It is extremely accurate however and almost as fast!

Gordon,

Thanks for the post and photos. Back when the earth was flat, I bought a '17 Colt and two hundred rounds of Auto Rim ammo for 75.00.

Can you tell me a bit about the grip panels on the Colt? I have a similar set on a 2.5 Python but, so I have been told, the maker died in the late 70s.

I have a 4" Python with some honest wear that I'd like to put a set of similar panels on.

I know that grip panels on older Pythons are a bit different. But, if I could send the maker a set that fits, maybe he could make a set similar to yours (and Jordan's) that fit an older frame.

Thanks,

salty.

Those are Roy Fishpaw grips of Fench Walnut. I don't know if he is still about. Hurry there is a set of Fuzzy Farrant combat grips on ebay for a Python, They are killer diller!

.357s are cool for hunting, but the reason that .45 Mags are not used in IPSC or IDPA ect. successfully is the reason I prefer .38+p in a gun FIGHTING revolver like this. I can't come close to 6 accurate .357s in 2 seconds even with a heavy gun like this. I am convinced that the 13" penetration of .38+p from a 4" barrel , whether 135 Gold Dots, Corbon stuff or 158LSWCHPs (preferred) is all that is needed to get er done. And if not on the first well centered hit, then the rest that follow controlled a second later.;)

Good well thought out reasoning, re 38/357s.

Nice piece but I prefer a K frame, handles nicer for me.
IIRC, While Tamara likes a good N frame, I think her favorite is a PC-13 K frame. I might be wrong, I have not heard her pontificate on this recently.
Something she does very well but not often enough.
