So, anybody besides me have one of these fine folding hunters? I bought this one in the mid-'80s and carried it while hunting and when on SAR exercises when I was in Civil Air Patrol. I dug it out last night and polished the brass with some Flitz, then wiped the whole thing down with a silicone-treated rag. It sure has more soul than the tacticool folders.

I've been doing some tweaking of my emergency kit lately, and IMO one of these or a Buck 110, paired with a chopper like a machete or a hatchet would handle most cutting needs I'd run into here in PA.

I own the hideous version called the "Morningstar" complete with cheesy fake scrimshaw on white plastic handle scales and the equally cheesy beaded leather belt pouch. :barf:

Those are nice knives. My dad has one of those, and he seems to likes his.

I have a Buck 110 and a larger (USA) Schrade, both great knives- though the Schrades tend to be more economically priced. On both, I allow the brass to take a tarnished look, but that's personal preference- and a little Brasso can turn that around when I so desire.

In an out of the way store on Monday, I found some Schrade knives one being this Bearpaw.
I let it go in favor of an LB5 Smokey and five other smaller Schrades.
Good looking knife, maybe I'll go for it.

Zeke, were the Schrades you saw new or older ones dating from before Schrade went under?

Unless they were leftovers, the Schrade brand is now owned by Taylor Cutlery, and any new production Schrades are made in China.

Dave,
The knives that I speak of were indeed origional made in U.S.A. Schrades complete with boxes and paperwork.
The knives were not on display, a friend told me that the store still had some Schrades left, an older gal employee was accomidating.
I came away with six knives.

Dave-

I gots one of them! Great Knife!

*snicker*

Mine has been keeping a Ruger Standard MKI and a brick of X22lr company for I guess 20 years or so now.
In this Allis-Chambers duffle bag, in a Case Tractor steel box thing-a-ma-jig, are tea lights, compass, topo and regular maps, Gov't Model of 1911, Model 94 in 30-30, money, Zippo, fluid, flints, wicks, Bic lighters, Metal Match, Small Axe, and other items...one could probably guess what and what for.

More accessible is a Case Mako Shark.
Always been a Case man myself. *grin*
