Yesterday I brought out the old M91 repro sniper. It is a 1931 hex tula built by CAI. Yes, sad I know.. but hey, I didn't do it and it's my gun. I'd shot surplus with it with OK accuracy, and at 100 yards I'd been unable to put bullets reliably within the black using either surplus cz silvertip or JMS 2007 surplus.

Accordingly, I hadn't shot it for over half a year. But yesterday, I started fiddling around with the knobs a little bit... a few adjustments - and within 3 shots I was doing 1" groups at 50 yards! since this was a very short outdoor range, I didn't push the target back any further. but this is wierd!

it gets odder. today I brought out the m48. all parts match except the bolt. it's all beat up, an aimsurplus shooter grade m48. well, in the past I couldn't get it to stay in the black at TEN yards. today, I was picking off the tops of bowling pins at 50! 5 shots, five bowling pins. I repeated this four times. not a single miss. Then I decided to try shooting for groups. I would up with a 2" group - shooting offhand, standing.

I can only think of two possible explanations.

Either a) there's been a highlander esque quickening and i'm suddenly a great shot

or

b) these rifles needed to be broken in and the past times of slinging lead had somehow made them accurate again after such a long storage period.

has anybody else had this happen? a rifle that can't seem to hit squat suddenly becomes real sweet?

I'll go for door #1. :D

I've had days where it seems that I couldn't hit the 10ring at 100 yards with a match rifle blessed by both the Pope and Carlos Hathcock, and then some days seem like I couldn't miss if I tried. Usually I blame the former on the coffee. ;)
