Straight trade getting a 10-7 for a 22A sounds like you came out on top assuming the gun is in good shape. It was likely made in 1984. See the revolver checkout thread stickied at the top of the sub-forum http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=1430 for info on how to properly check it over yourself.

As for background on the gun it's a model numbered continuation of the S&W Military & Police Hand Ejector. These guns, in one form or another, have been in continuous production since 1899. They were the original .38 S&W Special chambered firearm. For more info check out the K Frame thread here - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=260781.
