My neighbor's kid just got a cool new pellet gun. Crossman 1 pump 1,000 fps model. The manual advises oiling every 100 shots or so with the proprietary Crossman oil. Can regular gun oil be used here? Is there some other generic product for this application?

Thanks,

Scott

My Remington 870 manual also demands that I use Remoil to lube my shotgun. That doesn't unnecessarily mean that its the best oil for the job. They say that you should use their product because it increases their sales, not because there is something inherently superior about their oil.

I would bet that Hoppes or any other gun lubrication would work just fine.

I understand using petroleum based lube can damage the seals in airguns. I've read a place or two where it was speculated that Crosman Pellgun Oil is nothing more than transmission fluid. Apparently a powerful spring-piston airgun can actually cause some lubes to diesel causing undue pressure and resulting in damage. It would be great if someone could determine for sure what pellgun oil is.
