Have S&W Mod 627.. .38/.357 8 shot. Haven't seen loaders for this setup. I assume that without a loader you just struggle to get the clip loaded... or is their a technique??

I've been meaning to order a moonclip loader at www.moonclips.com but haven't gotten around to it. They even have a mpg video file which demonstrates it use. BTW, I also have a 627. Tried the rubber mag loaders, didn't like them. Barely able to use 38sp, really couldn't use 357's because of the length (357 + mag loader = too long, couldn't get past the mag release button).

I just kind of roll the cartridge in with my thumb.

Gary,
I load mine up at home before packing a range bag. I use my bench top. I hold the clip vertical, against the bench, with one hand. Using the other hand, I "roll" the cases in. All the force needed to snap them in, is directed against the bench top.
No more indented thumb!!

I put them on my finger like a ring when I load them up.

Well it works for the boys too. (the ring finger method)
Or you can lay some rounds flat and snap them in by pressing down, though this can get a bit awkward after the first few.
The real bear is unloading them whenyou forget your unloading tool.. talk about sore fingers.

I never had a problem with loading, it's unloading without a tool that's tough!
