I have a .223 muzzle brake that I would like to use on my AK. How do I drill it out?

Obviously, I have to drill it out or I have a semi-automatic high-speed bullet resizing die.

It's this one.

Can I just clamp it in a vice, square it up, select a 5/16" bit = .3125" = 7.9375mm and go to town?

(ducks)

edit: My AK is a Global Trades SSR that has 1/2x28 threads. That's the reason I'm going this route.

Uhm... it would probably be a lot less hassle to get one MADE for the 7.62x39 AK that is JUST like that.

I have one just like that on my Vector underfolder. It is made for 7.62x39, has 14x1mm negative threads and cost less than $20 dollars.

Call these guys. I've ordered from them before.

The brake pictured is a cheap piece of crap. No need to drill anything, it is bored to work with all AKs.

Don't expect it to reduce recoil or anything that a muzzle brake is supposed to do, or suppress any flashes.

The pictured item is only good toward 922r compliance.

If you want a GOOD muzzle brake, go to http://www.ak-103.com or http://www.globaltrades.com and get one of their 24mm brakes with a 14x1LH to 24mm adapter. These are really good copies of the original Russian Ak74 muzzle brake (with expansion chamber, flash dissipation cuts in the face, etc). Both companies brakes will work will all caliber of AK.

I suspect you won't lose much money on the one pictured (you can get them for $9.99 from some vendors).

My AK is a Global Trades SSR that has 1/2x28 RH threads. That's the reason I'm going this route.

Global Trades' 1/2x28 RH AK-74 brake is discontinued.

Global Trades' 1/2x28 RH AK-74 brake is discontinued. 1/2x28 RH to 24mm adapters are available (but rare). At the least find a metal worker around your area to make you one. Believe me, you will be able to tell the difference.

If you don't want to go that route, get a good AR15 muzzle brake or flash hider.

I bought 3 of those like you pictured for $9.99 and they don't 'perform' anything but as a 922r compliance part.
