My buddy, and fellow THR'r exar, purchased two garands from the CMP a few weeks back and they are in!

It is a field grade, and honestly I wasn't expecting much from it...But WOW, it is so nice! There are some dings on the stock, but really they only add character, its nothing bad at all...The bore is nearly perfect, it's bright and shiney with pretty much perfect rifling. All of the parts have next to zero pitting and the only bluing missing it from where the rifle was leaning on other rifles, once again it just adds character.:D

We got to unload one en-block a peice before it got dark and wow! Its the first time I had ever fired a grand(I've got goose bumps typing) I finally know what the legendary ping is now!

My gunshop I frequent has MORE than fair prices on almost everything...But the only garands they have are trash, and 8-900 bucks. This one only cost me $500+shipping(thanks to my buddy) and it blows every other garand I've seen out of the water.

I'll get some pictures and a range report up by the weekend!

Has anyone else received a garand out of the new CMP shipment?

Congrats.

No, not one from this shipment. But I want one. I only have one and you have to have 3. Right?

What's her birth date???

And yes... thread is totally worthless without pics.

Certainly hope that wasn't a "straw purchase", it could certainly be construed as one. Please be carefull of how you present the "details" of your "purchase".

It is actually most certainly not a straw purchase...He ordered them weeks before I even knew it and me being his buddy, gave me first dibs on buying one, because he only planned on keeping one of them...I haven't even paid for it yet, so technically I'm not even the owner until i get to the bank tomorrow.(no winks for anything, because thats the truth)

Sorry for the confusion, because I most certainly would not be advertising that I am breaking the law if I was.

I got the fever last summer and bought 7 Garands. I also visited the Springfield Armory museum last summer.

Be careful!
Be very careful!
M1 Garand rifles are like AR15s.
Once one begins acquiring them the addiction is harder to stop than a crystal meth habit.

At one time I had something in the neighborhood of fourteen Garands in the gunsafes.
I have managed to trim myself down to five including one Match rifle in 7.62 NATO/.308

Enjoy your new rifle and remember,,,,,
Moderation please.:D

Wow, 14 may be a bit obsessive...But I can now see where the addiction comes from...AR 15's are fun, but there is just something about the sound that comes out of a garand(plus the ping) that just makes me all gitty and fuzzy feeling.:D

What a coincidence! I had been telling a coworker about the CMP and today we decided to meet at the range after work and introduce him to a Garand. He fell in love with the feel and sound. He said he was going to start working on the paperwork for himself.

Congrats on your Garand purchase. They are a link back to our greatest generation.

They are a link back to our greatest generation.

Yes they are.:)

I just did a full disassembly of it and cleaned and lubed it...They booklet it came with gave a disassembly, but the only reassembly guide was for the trigger group so it was a bit of a PITA for me to put back together the first time...But I haden't eaten lunch yet, and was starving, so I told myself I wasn't eating until it was back together. Hungry fat guys can do amazing things :D

I just used Break Free CLP to clean and lube it, is there something else I should have used?

My girlfriend is out right now, and she has the camera, but when she gets back I'll post some pictures.
