A Carnival Cruise owned ship successfully evaded Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean (2005?) partially because they used a LRAD sonic weapon. It is not known how much the LRAD actually contributed but the pirates were never able to board the ship -although they were able to fire-upon the ship with rifles and an RPG.

Simple method to defend against sonic weaponry is to wear earplugs.

I've seen it asserted that these sorts of weapons cause discomfort by hitting a resonant frequency with your organs. In that case, earplugs aren't going to help much.

Yep; and NYPD had these fielded vehicle-mounted during the last election's RNC. And naturally the "we-hate-(you know the rest)-liberal-media" took great pains not to publicize much - any - footage or photos of these items on the streets of NY.

Their are many types of "sound" weapons....The "civilian" type devices that are sold by shomer and others are weak...they do work on "some" people but its a weak effect.

I have been in a room where higher powered units were turned on they REALLY pissed me off and others got very sick...they said like a motion type sickness/panic attack....some had to leave the room and some could handle it ,Others would become very agitated as I did and others were like whats the big deal as the device had little to no effect??

The "sound generators" that are used for crowd control in the US and other countrys are FAR beyond the power of the easy to find ready made devices.

A person with some skill with building boards etc...can build a high power unit easy.

Sound weapons do work but are large for the most part.

My favorite was the nazi sound weapon it worked by igniting a mixture of methane and oxygen in a resonant chamber. This created a chain of explosions, up to 1500 a second, which sent out a powerful and focused beam of sound, which was amplified by parabolic receptors. The pressure of the sound was unendurable. It was the same as being plunged 30 feet beneath the sea, in terms of pressure, and yet that pressure being reversed 100’s of times a second. It was a vibrating sound which could penetrate the human body the idea was that you could disrupt the brain and disrupt the heart.German tests were that in ½ a minute it would kill a man standing at 100 yards and seriously injure anyone standing within 300 yards. This gun was lethal, but to big and was never used in battle. I have a pic of it someplace.:D
