Wanted: Real EMT shears?

I am trying to find a source for the real, high quality, EMT shears.

(Not the Chinese ones they sell on late night TV to cut coins in two!)

These are the ones with loop handles, dull folded over point, and one serrated cutting edge that won't slip off when cutting problem items like slick seat-belts.
And coins! :D

Any EMT's out there that could give me a brand name to look for?

Thanks

I think the brand you are looking for is Medicut, but they're going to be made in China as well.

There are 2 sizes, the full size ones are gonna set you back a whopping $6.00 if you search around for them.

Have you tried a rescue hook? I hear that some EMTs are using those instead because they don't go dull like the shears do...

Even the cheapest "trauma shears" will cut a penny.

Even the best trauma shears will be DAMAGED by cutting pennies. Don't do it.

Its always a good idea to have a spare pair or two. That way if you damage (or contaminate) your primary pair, you can just toss the questionable pair. You don't need to spend a lot of money on a disposable tool.

There's a medical supply store in almost any city that carries them.

Thanks for everyones help!
That gives me some real good leads!

And actually, I don't need them for anything as exotic as rescue work or cutting Penny's! :D

I like them for underwater plant (Lotus & Water Lilly) trimming in my Koi Ponds.
They are rubber pond liner safe, so I don't make a Drain Hole where I really don't want one.

The $1.99 cent chinese ones from Harbor Freight won't cut worth a darn when they are brand new!

Interestingly I have half a dozen pairs of the HF shears. At 99 cents each when on sale, they are basically disposable and I find they work real well at cutting all kinds of things.

Never tried cutting a penny with one though. So I tried it. Didn't cut the penny. Did maul it a bit.

OK, put it off as long as I could. Local boy carries the S&W shears for aboput 5 bucks. Bought a pair ftf. Doing good, so far, but haven't cut any pennies. (I learned the hard way!) Try:
dakotaknives@yahoo.com

Damned near everything is made in China. The BrigadeQM catalog at least tells what steel the knives are made of.

Stay safe.

Best ones I had were made in Germany and second best from Japan. . As said most nowdays use cheap ones and plan to dump them when they get messed up bad enough.

I like the cheap ones because they are disposable, which is good because shears always disappear. The down side is that they go dull quickly (like a pair of jeans quickly), and if you are a lefty they suck-I have to push the blades together when cutting.
There are some huge nice german ones...they are very expensive, bulky, but very nice.
My kingdom for some nice lefty trauma shears!

Go with Chinook...I just bought a whole bunch of medical supplies from them, and couldn't be happier.
